Anaemia

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have been diagnosed anaemic and have been taking prescribed tablets for a week, but I still feel ill, am I expecting too much too soon?

I have been really struggling over the last 9 months or so, I catch every bug going, increasingly, I'd struggle through the working week and then spend the weekend in bed! I finally decided this wasn't normal and as I was at this point just feeling ill all the time, I went to my GP.

I was told I would feel hugely different in three weeks of taking the tablets, I thought this would have a gradual effect, so I did expect to feel some improvement after a week. I still feel tired, ache and have tingly muscles, I did feel briefly better on Friday, but then felt rough again over the weekend. Any insight into anaemia would be welcome!

Hope you feel better soon. I have had bouts of anaemia from time to time. My dad went one better - pernicious anaemia - he had to have injections! I hated the tiredness and worst of all doing daft things like putting things in the fridge instead of a cupboard and being generally forgetful - I was quite worried I was heading down the dementia road. But then the doing daft things were the alarm bell and so off to the docs and yes, more tablets. I tend to keep them on standby now.

So hang in there for a while longer.

Thank you for your replies,

I was tested for a range of other things that showed up in bloods, all normal. I am feeling a bit better now, just got to hope it lasts, as I am seriously sick of feeling how I have been. I am working at gradually building up my stamina, as I had sprained my knee a few months ago, so hadn't been able to do dog walks. I am now upto gentle walks in the rain, which is an improvement!

Ugh don't talk to me about knees, I've been suffering for some time. Anyway I found this website with exercises and helps you work out what the injury is. It may help you become more stable and strengthen your knee and regain full movement of your knee. It's worked for me so far I've got full movement back and can get up and down stairs even if its sideways (which is one of the exercises anyway). Hope it helps you.

Ooh thanks for the tip Plum - I have issues with my left knee ever since I broke the ankle. Although that's the other leg! It's going up and down stairs - alright on the flat or walking up hills. I'm going back to swimming again to strengthen the lot!

Chuckmum, good news the bloods were good - apart from the iron! Hope you are feeling even better today.

I am feeling much better at last! Thankfully I have been spared the iron tablets potential side effects and I think they are having an effect, I feel human again!

Went for my first bit of physio yesterday on the knee, the excerises are very similar to those on the link Plum posted.

I am hoping to fix the knee as well as my iron levels this holiday! Looking forward to the new me for 2016, as 2015 was eventful health wise, what with rumbling appendicitis, neuralgia, anaemia and the knee twice, quite glad it is nearly over!

Similar knee probs here and surgeon (did not care for him) wanted to give me knee replacement or just painkillers. No cartridge left!! I went back in January in real pain with no movement and doctor and I resumed something stuck in the joint is an osteophyte broken off. He would not hear of it just a new knee needed. I must say I was still not keen. I have not any daily pain and almost full movement again so he was wrong!! Will put it off long as possible and the cortisone injection got me started being better. Keep up the exercises.
