ChickenPoopGarden
That's it! Two new girls- Poinsettia the Bluebell and Mrs King the Speckledy- plopped onto the empty roosting bar and settling quietly for the night. Also, in an astonishing twist, when I went to put the carrier back in the shed, I found Marshmallow sitting ON TOP of the broody cage. Do not ask me how she got out of the cage, which was shut up tight, or how long she's been out, but I figured she must be unbroody to have achieved a feat of houdini-style escapology, so I stuffed her back in the coop, too. Hopefully tomorrow we'll have a happy coop of 8 ladies, with no fighting....

Hippie Chick
Well, if there's an empty roosting bar it obviously needs filling I have one each of those hybrids as well - they're real characters!
ChickenPoopGarden
Well, the feathers are flying this more nh! There was a very peaceful coop when I went out, but the minute they realised there were newcomers the necks were fluffed up and everyone was walking on tippy-toes and there was all kinds of squawking and clucking! Dear oh... Poinsettia seems OK, they haven't paid her much heed, but Mrs King can't do anything without getting battered. Hopefully they'll establish their place in the flock soon and peace will be restored... On the plus side, no-one noticed that Marshmallow was back! ChickenPoopGarden
Clipped the two new girls wings and let everyone out whilst I spruced up the run, hung a new drinker and dismantled the broody coop so that I could get in and out of the shed again. They just LOVE free ranging, but I really don't like to leave them unattended. Unfortunately, in my busy bee bustle, I had not considered how to get all these free birds, including two brand new ones that hadn't yet had time to familiarise themselves with their home! I just had to leave them to bustle about and hope they'd all go back to the coop at dusk and not get eaten!! Nerve wracking! But they're all safely in now and the freedom seems to have cooled tempers somewhat. I love these funny chickens!
