Alis girls
Anyone watching this on Netflix? Very good and riveting. ES got me hooked. I blame him for me sitting around doing nothing. Well it has rained. Last thing he recomended had a fair Omleters hooked (The Disappeared) this is American and set in 80's - reminds me a bit of Fargo but totally different story. patsylabrador
I loved it and have watched it through twice. Enjoy!
Cat tails
Gah! Another thing to get addicted to on Netflix! Evil evil Netflix!

AndyRoo
I *loved* this show! I can't wait for the second season. If you like that show, there are a couple of others that I think people might like: Orphan Black, The Strain, Hemlock Grove, Dollhouse, The Returned, and Between. All of those are similar sci-fi or horror themed shows. Of all of them I think my favourites are Orphan Black and Dollhouse. I also love a bit of The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead! Alis girls
Orphan Black looks good. Another one for a boring Saturday night or wet day.
Valkyrie
Weird isn't it! Also watching Orphan Black - it's quite funny at times.
Janepie33
Excellent show. Watched from the second episode to the end in one day (DS & DD filled me in on the first episode) and watched the first episode a day later. Very much looking forward to the next series. Valkyrie
Just remembered how like The Goonies and ET it was at times with a few other films mixed in.
bluekarin
I have watched 3 episodes so far and love it! I was a bit dubious as dh was raving about it (he watches a lot of these series, usually one after the other, and quite often rubbish) but he was right about this one. I also thought its very reminicent of The Goonies and ET The kid actors are amazing. I want to watch some more, but need to not do so in the evenings as I get quite freaked out by spooky stories
AndyRoo
The kids in this show are absolutely brilliant. I don't like to knock, as I know there are always exceptions, but usually the kids are the ones that let it down. I think the girl that plays 11 is absolutely phenomenal. I also have to credit Winona Ryder too, I personally think this is the best performance she has ever given. I'm so pleased they've renewed the show for a second season, I can't wait. Valkyrie
I agree - 11 (Millie Bobby Brown - why so long a name for goodness sake!!!) is exceptional. She has few words and has to do so many facial expressions to do the talking. Absolutely fantastic and hopefully she will get some superb parts in future films from this series. chooksRCute
I've took the plunge & started watching, a few moments of cringe behind a cushion - I'm a total wimp - but I have to agree that it's hooked me in too..
bluekarin
I too have a cushion for safety
Olly
I'm looking for something new to watch - I've only recently got into the idea of box sets/series, and I've discovered that it suits me much better to watch a couple of episodes at a time (and no adverts). I watched Breaking Bad all the way through, then my friend lent me The Sopranos, and I've just finished The Good Wife up to Season 6 - going to have to wait till Season 7 is on Netflix. However, I really, really dislike horror/scary stuff - how bad is this? I watched True Blood when it was on and I was mostly ok with that. The mention of cushions has put me off a bit, I'm almost always watching alone in the evening.
bluekarin
I don't do horror or scary things, though I watch Silent Witness etc albeit with a cushion to hand. I am a huge wuss! I have one episode left of this series, but I shall watch that tomorrow, but do give it a go as it is really good. Its not all tense; there is a lot of humour in it and its so good to have the 80's vibe.
AndyRoo
Ha, I'm obviously complete desensitised to horror. Scary movies don't really bother me, although I admit that I don't like movies that make you jump a lot. I'm not good with sudden shocks! Maybe it's because I write horror novels so I am accustomed to trying to scare people, as opposed to being scared myself! lol
patsylabrador
I saw this article on FB. A little bit of info for fans but not quite enough. stranger things2
patsylabrador
I didn't really find it scary, I just loved the story and characters. I've watched the trailer for Don't Breathe ( I think that's what it's called) and that looked too heart-stopping for me. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the Enfield Poltergeist but I think that's because it's set in a basic suburban English house. Also, I sort of have a link to, in a very tiny way, the WPC who was involved. I don't know her personally or anything but my link is good enough for me. AndyRoo
I think the last couple of movies that have really, really scared me were 28 Days Later, and The Descent. 28 Days Later scared me because it was a 'zombie' movie, but they weren't actually zombies, it was just the entire population infected with a virus that made them lose their minds. Because I know how devastating a pandemic could be, it sets me on edge. I know it's more likely to be the flu than anything else, but it really, really set me on edge. The Descent scared the life out of me, not with the monsters, but with the caving. The way they filmed it perfectly captured the claustrophobia of squeezing through tight tunnels etc. I remember watching it in the cinema and trying to hold my breath and regulate my breathing when the characters were crawling through the tunnels. I am not a big fan of any movies that involve sharks because, unless it's Sharknado!, I find the concept frighteningly real. I refuse to swim in the sea, I'll stick to a pool. The only other movie that I literally have to watch when someone else is in the house with me, and always in the day is The Company of Wolves. When I was about 4/5 my grandparents were watching it with my dad and my uncle, I refused to go to bed and *insisted* it wouldn't scare me... wrong! I've been scarred by that movie ever since. My sister didn't sleep for nearly a week after watching Stephen King's 'It', she said that terrified her. I also remember being scared to death as a kid (in fact, I think anyone that watched it was left traumatised from what I remember) by a BBC spoof documentary called Ghos"Ooops, word censored!"ch. That put the frighteners on me for a long time!
Valkyrie
I used to read out bits from horror stories to my friend when we were on holiday - she always threw things at me - can't think why? Another time I drew and cut out a cockroach (can't remember who wrote that - James Herbert maybe?) and stuck it where here bookmark was. Oh the screams . . . Also not a problem here with scary movies - they make me laugh. The only one that did was Night of the Demon and I ran home through the woods one night coming home late from work when I was a lot younger. Fastest half mile I'd ever done! Sometimes old is better. As for modern things - hubby doesn't like watching and I'm surprised he saw this one through!
patsylabrador
For anyone interested. Some clues about the next series. stranger things PS. I'm finally getting to watch The Conjuring, The Enfield Poltergeist today. Looking forward to that. A ghost story set in a big standard London semi, I think that'll be scary. We're having a movie day so following it up with the extended version of The Martian. I love that film and the book so even more is even better. Also, has anyone watched Top of the Lake or Hinterland on Netflix. Both dark, both good.
patsylabrador
Conjuring 2 is a good fun goosebumpy jump fest. I enjoyed it a lot. I recommend it to anyone who likes ghost stories.

Alis girls
I havent finished watching it as I got caught up in the missing. I saw the first few minutes of the Enfield story and was spooked by the story of the dog under the covers licking the girls hand. It wasnt a dog. So gave it a miss have far too active an imagination for my own good. And going thro woods at night - nah dont think so
