Menopause madness

I think I am going potty. Today I lost my glasses. Got up early for work. Made tea, took one to OH languishing in bed and then when dressed took glasses and cups downstairs. This is where it goes pearshaped. Glasses disappeared. Got my spares - bets at work guessed I'd find them in the fridge or dishwasher. No they were in my purse with my money.

As you can see from my other post a simple TV programme I find impossible to follow.

Can't blame thyroid as my doses have been increased. Modern technology leaves me gibbering wreck. I recently confided in the other nurse that to save stuff to patients notes I would attach test results in a long roundabout way. She admitted she did it like that too.

I think life is too busy. I do exercise and get out etc . Not been feeling great recently as had a scare last week and to have ECG and other tests for chest pain. Not cardiac but need further tests. Sure I'm not alone.

From this aspect I've had a difficult year, it's really tainted life and been horrible. I've been 'recovering' since my collapse/faint/whatever it was in February. I still have to be careful to eat properly if I'm rushing around. I went blurry and dizzy in London the other day but I'm loads better since I started HRT. Almost back to my old self, in fact possibly more fit because I'm taking more care of my diet and exercise.

I was surprised by the effect it had on me. It's sad that I wasn't better informed and prepared. I didn't know what was happening to me. Women should definitely talk more openly about the menopause so that we can help each other.

As usual the help and advise on this forum was brilliant.

Def more scatty and FAR more grumpy and bad tempered than usual (and that's saying something :oops: ) but, sadly, can't have HRT so blithering about blindly! Have tried various herbal stuff (after posting about same here!) but nothing seems to restore the old me!

 

I did hear, some time ago when it was irrelevant, about menopause bread with all the sorts of seeds that are supposed to help. Can I find the recipe now? Can I heck as like!

Don't want HRT due to FH of breast cancer. I know the recipe you mean not sure what thread is called.

 

Same here; I have LCIS (lobular carcinoma in situ) which isn't breast cancer but the stage between having it and not where the cells start to mutate and so may or may not develop into full blown at any point in the near or distant future. Idea being HRT will likely tip it over the edge.

 

Japanese women have a very low instance of breast cancer...apparently due to loads of soya? So interesting how diet plays such a big part!

It's all so complicated because we're all so different but here are things that I think help me ....

Keeping hydrated, I log how much I drink because I'm really lazy about drinking :wall:

I'm changing the ratios of nutrients I eat and eat far more protein than carbohydrates and fats. I think it's important to still have your fats and carbohydrates but it works for me to have lots more protein than I used to.

Exercise.... I got a fitbit and declared that I'm going to exercise this **** out of me. (It works for me!)

I'm trying to reduce how many chemicals I put in my skin via cosmetics etc. It sounds airyfairy but I reckon the less rubbish that finds it's way to my liver the better my body can deal with menopause.

I feel better and I don't think it's entirely down to the chemicals in HRT, I think it's down to gaining control of myself. It sounds crazy when I read it back but it's good I'm sure.

I also had DCIS and had been pleased I had not taken any HRT as I discovered my cancer cells were oestrogen receptive. I made it through menopause but still have some sweaty nights and joint pains. Five years down the line after treatment I am clear thank goodness and going au natural did fine for me. Mind you I wonder if I will ever wear thick jumpers again! At 62 I really want rid of the sweats! Apart from that, nothing worried me

 

Edited to add, I drink loads if water daily and my skin never did like chemicals, I use Moogoo products which work very well for my sensitive skin.

Another BC sufferer here! Been on tamoxifen for five years as I was pre menopausal but now have to have a blood test to see if I am back on tamoxifen for another 5 years or an alternative.

I was only expecting to be on it for 5 years but the Recommendation is 10 years. I'm not complaining though.

 

Constant hot flushes day and night aching bones and weight gain but I'm still here and smiling :lol:

That's the most important thing :D

I am just starting out on the fun ride which is menopause. I feel angry and panicky a lot, I am so much more intolerant than I used to be. I crave cold places and cold things and I think my OH and I will fall out over the heat in the house this winter :roll: . However I am not the first woman to do this and I won't be the last so I will try to grin and bear it.

What I really hate is just not being 'me' anymore......I am far more bad tempered, anxious and generally less self confident and I have to say that the mental symptoms far outweigh the physical ones (at least at the moment!) Usually, even taking into account the Asperger's, I am pretty much on an even keel but recently its up, down and all over the place mentally. Just wish it was all a bit more predictable so we knew what to expect when and for how long :roll: !

As you can see from my earlier post, I have been taking tamoxifen which mimics menopausal symptoms and am having tests to see if I am actually menopausal so I am hugely sympathetic BUT I have to say, one of my friends who I love dearly does use the symptoms as an excuse for bad stroppy behaviour.

She throws a strop like a kid if she can't get her husband to do exactly what she wants (cooking, ironing, etc etc) and he always tows the line. when she calms down she says oh my hormones are all out of balance.....sorry but you have just behaved like a petulant child...own it!!!!

:shameonu: Crying wolf comes to mind! Stroppy behaviour in anyone over the age of 3 is not on! I'd NEVER get away with it....not that I'd even consider trying.

Yup I was Victor Meldrew too. I think I'm over that now. I'm officially old as from June - not had any nonsense for a year apart from the rest of the body misbehaving and that's self inflicted usually - overeating, overdoing, underdoing etc. I'm still forgetful as anything and as accident prone as usual. I was like that before I "came of age" so I'm just back in my childhood! I still get flushes of sorts and I don't know whether it's an after effect but I feel quite hot at most times. I lie on the top of the bed because the covers heat me up and make me so icky sweaty. I wonder if it will stay with me because my grandmother was very much the same and I remember her always sleeping without the covers even in the coldest of nights. I watch hubby whinge about the cold in the house so he wraps up and then rolls the bed covers around himself.

As for dizzy spells, they coincided with drops in blood pressure. I used to have tablets but now diet changes and lots of activity (except for those hot summer days when I broke out in perspiration even trying to open the back door and I just went into hibernation for a while until it was cool enough to come out) and now I only take them if necessary because I monitor myself regularly. I also found out that older people have higher levels of BP which is the norm. So my dizzy spells were down to the doctor trying to make my levels the same as a normal 18 - 25 year old. No wonder! :roll:

 

Edited to add that the doctor is well pleased with BP monitoring so is happy to let me take tablets only when I feel I have to.

Look on the bright side, ladies....think of the money we are saving on heating!!!!Although no hot flushes here (yet??!!) my core temp seems to have gone up so, when OH moans about it being chilly and moves off towards the thermostat I tell him its just him and maybe he should put another jumper on!! :shameonu:

Reminds me of when we got back to Gatwick from Spain this year in the early hours of the morning and security took forever and the woman said "where have you flown from?" I looked at her gormlessly and couldn't think of an answer OH and son were staring at me confused all I could think of was Corfu which was the year before. In my defence I had been travel sick and was dehydrated, confused and tired. I was tempted to say "Mars" but don't think she had a sense of humour. OH glared at me and said "Spain".

Without going into big detail I bled very heavily in October 2015. I ended up anemic and had to have an internal scan. I also had the perimenopause blood test. All came back normal and it seems to be just down to my Hashimotos hypothyroidism.

 

I can sympathise feeling so rubbish though. I rarely feel the same 2 days in a row.
