scarlettohara
Hi planning on changing our cube to outside of run and need a pic of how to fix cube on if anyone has one? Sara 😀
Cat tails
Not sure what you are looking for. Are you going to attach it to a Omlet WIR? Or a self build WIR? If it’s an Omlet one, you need a connection kit right?
scarlettohara
Hi, I've been on here for 8 years but not recently and there used to be a thread just for our wir pictures, it was called Wir inspiration I think 🤔 We have wood wirs that we built ourself. Cat tails
Found this one. It also has a link to chicken run inspiration. (Click here in top post) but just realised most pictures are broken because of stupid Photobucket.
scarlettohara
Thanks cat tails, I managed to find it too. I have messaged my friend Lewis who has this walk in run 😃
Grandmashazzie
How does he get cube secure against WIR? I have similar WIR but have my cube inside, which sort of diminishes the easy access to cleaning etc as I have to push it forward to clean. I had thought of putting it outside but couldn’t figure out attachment as I don’t want rats or mice slithering in any gaps or worse MR Fox. Lewis
The Cube is just butted up against the WIR and stays there with it's weight, it's not attached to the run. You can take the runners off and lift the Cube roof up rather than sliding it forwards. We've since extended the run to have a separate introduction/broody/duck run. Can only find a photo of when we built it, has a clear corrugated roof now.
SeramaSilly
Aw Lewis - love the ducks!!! Do they have a separate house?? My friend has chickens and ducks and one night she found her runner duck inside her classic eglu with her three chooks!!
Grandmashazzie
Will definitely have a go of doing that next dry spell. I have clear corrugated plastic on mine as well. At least it was clear now a sort of algae green.A thorough spring clean is in order.
Lewis
We have a trio of Call Ducks who usually live in a separate eglu and run but for the winter they were in the WIR with everyone else - there's a classic and a Go on the floor that they can use but they never do! SeramaSilly
They actually climb the ladder and sleep in the cube - clever ducks!!!
Lewis
Noo The eglu's on the floor are for them but they never use them, they just sleep on a pallet we have in the run. I've taken the ladder away as the chooks never used it either, just hop in and out.
Alis girls
Scarlet I remember you. You lived in Herts. How are you.?
Plum
This is what we did. The arch over the cube was made from plywood and painted. I added some bits of 2x2 to fill the gap underneath. The roof could still open without moving the cube. I wish it was as clean as that now I've taken the steps off as they never use them and have a wooden ikea stool they happily hop on. Grandmashazzie
Plum, there is no chance of 🐀 rats or 🐁 mice getting in cube??? That looks ideal and one I will be getting OH to copy. It would make cube so much easier to clean. Am I thinking of something else but on old forum did someone post about rat crawling in a gap in cube. If I was sure it was nigh on impossible I would definitely do this. Yes my cube doesn’t look like that anymore either. Especially when little rascals roost on top and poo all night. Plum
I always shut the door at night and am then confident the girls are safe. I had a mouse in the run I saw it go through the run wire. I rather liked him but not been around now for years. Post your new arrangements when they're done.
Grandmashazzie
Will do, now it’s so easy.
Sara_PC
I have just completed our WIR too, minus a bit of painting here and there. Maybe we should start another inspiration post so we can all share pictures?
Plum
That's a good idea for all those starting out. It was such a help for me. or just rename this thread! Scarlet where are you Edited March 17, 2018 by Plum
