kissinuk
Got our Eglu this morning, along with 2 gingernuts Honey & Marmalade. Took us ages to decide on the gingernuts as originally we wanted 2 different breeds, but Omlet are still out of Pepperpots. In the end it worked out fine as we can tell them apart fairly easily. I recommend getting chickens from Omlet if you can, the service was great, so much easier watching someone else build the Eglu for you! We've put them on a small piece of garden round the side of the house that's been a wildflower meadow all year, so far it seems to be holding up okay (bit hardier than normal lawn). However, I'll be putting down some bark chips over the next few days once they've scratched that lot up. They seem very happy, bit timmid still but we're working on that. Marmalade found her way into the Eglu tonight no probs, but Honey seemed to get a bit lost and couldn't decide what she was supposed to do at night - she even tried squeezing herself under the grub.... kissinuk
Forgot to mention, have a look on the bigger picture below and let me know if having a bottom beak longer that the top is normal (the chook at the back of the pic)??? There's no signs of the top one being broke, it looks perfectly formed, and she is eating okay so I'm not concerned about it, just wanted to know if it's common. http://club.omlet.co.uk/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=17004&g2_imageViewsIndex=
moochoo
I've got 2 gingernut rangers from Omlet too. I was also concerned about the beak situation but apparently they've been clipped I'm told that they should grow back in due course.
Egluntyne
One of mine has this. It doesn't seem to worry her.
arowland17
It's like she's pouting, maybe some treats may cheer her up?!?! lovely choice of eglu colour by the way
Leicester_H
Glad you took a picture of the grass - so you can remember what it looks like - it won't be there much longer !!!! Enjoy - Hazel
ChickNic
Daisy has a wonky beak too! I do worry as she is quite a bit thinner than Gretchen and can't eat as quickly, I'm sure she'll be fine with a bit of tlc though!
Richard
mmmm. Just wondering if there is an opportunity here. Prosthetic beaks in different colours. could be made in coloured acrylic (like kids' orthodontic braces) and then glued on. Might have to think about this - what every WAG chicken should have. Have a bumpa anti pecking bit as a nose ring as well - just the biz
kissinuk
Thanks for the replies, good to know she's not the only one with it! They've spent most of the morning either staying in the Eglu or sitting flat in the run, not much scratching around yet. Will try to get them on bark chippings later, don't think the grass will last too much longer without moving them.

Hen Watch
Glad to hear of your new arrivals. 1 of my 4 girls from Omlet had a rounded shorter top beak. My kids love it as it means she is much gentler when she pecks food from their hands. We got another chook from an agent, her beak was fine when we got her but she has managed to chip a bit off the top too. Both have no problems and eat well. Don't worry. Blonde Chicken
Hello. One of our Omlet girls has the funny beak too. They arrived at the end of July and she is doing just fine, in fact of the two she is the most bossy and takes all the treats. As the others have already said dont worry she will be fine. kissinuk
They are now on their new home of chipped bark and they seem to like it (plus it seems to have got rid of most of the flies too). They still aren't quite brave enough to eat from our hands but they're getting closer. Once they're allowed out of the runs I'll post some more pics!
