bob the builder party

Recommended Posts

for those of you who asked me to, i have added some photos to my album of my little boys bob the builder 3rd birthday party. or rather the aftermath as i was so busy i didnt get my camera out until the kids had gone. i also made a bob the builder cake,.... now dont laugh!!! it doesnt look much like bob, but some of the children knew who it was. i am new to the cake modelling lark and it took me hours.

Edward had a great time although we had a few spots of rain the weather was ok. i was rushing around at the last minute trying to finish everything as usuall

hi

yes it is a windmill, it is in our backgarden and we are renovating it at the moment. we hope to turn it into a holiday home. hubbie is a builder so he is doing it in his spare time but as it is listed everything has to be approved  and it is a bit of a money pit. it will be nice when it is done and we should be able to make some money back from renting it. we live in the mill house which hubbie has gutted and is in the process of renovating but he is so busy we have loads of floorboards etc missing. the worst is over as last year we didnt have a bathroom, you could see the roof from the kitchen as we had most of the upstairs floor missing and we had black sacks instead of windows in the back upstairs until chirstmas and we had one working light downstairs which was in the hallway and two upstairs in the kids bedrooms. oh and just the logburner for heating (which did work really well at heating the house and it wasnt the type that heats radiators its just a normal one) i am glad those days are over!!!! it wasnt fun with a baby and a toddler.

oh and the chickens loved it, obviously they wernt free ranging but they were having a good nosey at the kids playing and loved all the food they were given. i thought they would retreat to the eglus but they say by the mesh watching. i put little notes and photos of them on the runs to say what breed they are, how old they are and what their names are. i also put a note about fingers as my norfolk greys have really bad eyesight and have had edwards fingers a few times.

if anybody is planning on a bob the builder party i have about 10 new plastic hats with a tool kit set and proper reflective jackets left over all new. i was going to stick them on e-bay when i get around to taking some photos. i bought more than i needed and some of the girls didnt want to wear them.

i also bought the bob the builder party cake book which i will be keeping but you can borrow and a bob the builder cake mould which i will be selling.

yes there is a windmill not far from us that gets £950 per week peak season self-catering. we would have to rent it out alot to be able to afford the £30000 wooden dome and i dont think we would ever be able to afford the sails.

You'd think you would get a grant for that sort of thing from a historical society or the local council/government?? :? As you are paying mostly yourselves to restore something thats unique and part of working history.

we did look into it when we moved in it was a small amount of money and i think we had to reach a certain stage to apply, at the moment we have made it safe and replaced all the floorboards like for like. we had to remove the stones as the origional boards were so rotten it was a huge health and safety problem. it still has all the rest of the workings which is nice. a neighour said that one of the previous owners had had a grant and used to hold bbqs to raise money for the mill but i think he spent it on the mill house. the owners before us wanted to demolish it and didnt realise that as a listed building they couldnt.:roll: our council puts you on a kind of naughty list if you own a listed building in need of repair to kind of shame you into action.
