Lesley
I don't know! Since I hurt my knee and found it too difficult to get around the supermarket, Carl has left me in the car with the newspaper while he does a 'hit and run' - for some strange reason, he says it is much cheaper this way We shop at the Farmer's Market and the Farm Shop together - and we grow so much that we don't need much now. I now have an image in my head of you opening the cupboard under the stairs to grab another roll and it's jam packed to the roof!!!! thaqt must be one big order of loo roll. We seem to go through it like water here. I'd need an entire separate building to house ours. That's really made me chuckle FC!
bellekatz
I reckon just over £500 a month, but that includes all the animal stuff, 5 adults ( well 3 adults and two hungry teenagers) - ooh and the wine!

Jules.
It is funny at Costco when the offers are on for washing powder or toilet roll.... that's all you see in the trolleys (and mine!)

When I was free and single (I'm still young ) money was really really tight as I lived nr London, had a big mortgage, travelled miles for work blah blah blah. I always used to buy when things were on offer - in particular the loo rolls - you know the 6 for 4 or 12 for 9 that Andrex do - I never forget coming home with yet another 12 for 9 and opening my airing cupboard to stash them away only to realise I already had 84 loo rolls Now that really is a lot of toilet paper for one girl to work her way though!!!! fairy&cake
LOL! i dont see how its funny!!! its weird because we've gone from liviing as a single couple is a town flat, to a baby and mom and daddy with a country house! Ross used to go out 5+ times a week when we lived in the centre of a town/village Now he hardly goes out and doesnt even miss it!
Popcorn
You now have a gorgeous little addition to keep you busy and look over while he sleeps. They're totally exhausting aren't they? It's funny how your priorities change, and how much you appreciate all the things you once took for granted - like a night out, or five minutes with a cuppa and a biscuit...or even the forum. Guest
I spend about £400 a month and there's 6 of us, so I think we do quite well. Like most people here, I cook from scratch which I am sure cuts the expense. We only eat meat at the weekend, but we (well they because I don't eat meat) do it well. I spend £48 a month on a meat box from DevonRose and £54 a month on vegetables from Riverford. The rest I order once a month from Sainsbury (just switched from Tesco because I found Sainsbury sell degradable bin liners and food bags and loads of fairly traded stuff). We get through 27 toilet rolls a month. This is a big improvement since I started shopping monthly and realised how many we used.
Popcorn
Do you know, I have no idea how many toilet rolls we get through. I might do a count at the start of next month. Thanks Ginette!

chocchick
I once worked at a paper mill and got a pile of free toilet roll. That kept us in loo roll for a while
craftyhunnypie
I've only shopped for groceries online once & that was when I was incapable of going out because of an injury. I really missed not being able to go the supermarket. I enjoy shopping & as long as it is fine weather I walk into town and carry all my veggies back on a Thursday....really good exercise carrying 2 5lb bags of spuds & whatever else. Makes me also realise how much weight I was carrying round before I started my diet! No, we both like food shopping - it's a husband & wifey thing I think! SueSteve
There are 5 of us, 2 adults, 2 teenagers, a younger child and 2 cats. I spend around 30-100 a week, depending on what is on offer!!! I love Bogof offers! I think it balances out to around £300 a month. We grow our own veg, and what we dont grow we get from Riverford, I also get Riverford Milk, Cream, yoghurt, Fruit and eggs (but not for much longer!!). We are vegetarian, I cook from scratch, and make our own bread, rolls, cakes, biscuits (Jam & chutney!). I tend to buy mainly Organic, so that pushes the price up, but at teh moment they have some good deals in Morrisons on organic - honey, bread flour, juice etc. I do occasionally go to other shops to buy things that are cheaper e.g. Tescos - cashews and almonds are £6 for a large bag (1Kg), these go in lunchboxes, and if I bought in small packets, they are £1.39 for 100g. I also buy 4/5 Kg bags of lentils for around £3, or normally 80p for 500g.
Shirl
There are 6 of us. 4 adults and a 3 years old and 6 month old. The 6 month old doesn't consume anything though because she isn't weaned off breast milk and I don't buy nappies, wipes, shampoos etc for her. We spend in excess of £600 which includes cleaning products and toiletries but not food for the animals, 3 years olds toiletries, alcohol, milk and extras bought in the week. We buy mainly organic food including meat which is very expensive. We eat enourmous amounts of fruit and veg which this year I haven't grown due to having the baby. Basset
I have to admit that I've never ever done a weekly shop!! Hubby always does it, and he has no supermarket loyalty, so goes to whichever supermarket is most convenient - usually Sains, Morrisons, Tesco or Waitrose. He spends £90 each week in the supermarket. I tend pop out to the small local shops to buy a few bits and bobs each week and spend another £30 on treats for the children and ingredients for recipes that have taken my fancy. Burns for our Basset and chooks food probably adds another £10 each week. S0 that adds up to £130 each week - YIKES we must try to cut back!!!! The Dogmother
It's hard isn't it? I feed me, Rosie, the cats and sometimes Phil (he gives me a bit of dosh towards the food), and today the bill came to over £60 I don't buy treats at all, just what we need to eat. I get the basics form Tesco, which hate having to do, but as a full-time working single mum, I have to go for convenience and cheapness. All our meat, most of the fruit and veg and cheese comes from the farmers' markets locally. So that it is traceable. I make all our bread and cakes. Most of our meals are made from scratch - I batch bake like Mel does and then put it in the freezer; I could do with a bigger freezer - it's only 4 drawers under the fridge . A large proportion of the toiletries come from a healthfood shop in Stratford, and I also buy locally at weekends from a friend's organic shop. Like most of us, it's a compromise to fit around the funds and time available.

Charlottechicken
I can't remember the last time I bought any loo rolls There's only me in the household, and I think I use a roll a fortnight, and as I have two loos (one up and one down, it can cause indecision on the staircase ) that means each loo gets a new roll once a month. I used to buy really cheap loo roll but found it to be a false economy. You are right Mel, it doesn't get any more glamerous than talking loo paper in the evening
Sarah 2
We spend just over £400 on food and extras a month That's for 5 of us but I'm sure we waste far too much food.
