Bit of excitement at the chiropodists!

Recommended Posts

Was sitting in the chair chatting to my chiropodist when we became aware of the police helicopter swooping low overhead.

I joked and said they would be looking for an escaped convict in nearby Endcliffe Park.....next thing you know, there are sirens going, cars screeching to a halt and shouting. Whoever it was the police were after, he was hiding in the ginnel between the chiropodist and the shop next door!

We rushed to the front window to see a chap being wrestled with and then handcuffed and put into the police car. Very exciting. It was like being in an episode of the Bill. It attracted quite a crowd.

Will have to read the Sheffield Star to see if it gets a mention.

We don't get the police helicopter much now, so I guess our local criminals are currently "on holiday".

When I lived with my parents, one night I heard the police helicopter, it was quite close, so I got out of bed and stood between the window and the drawn curtains in my nightie. Suddenly, the 'copter beam turned on my parents house and there I was in full beam, lit up in my nightie :oops: After that I made sure I just peeped around the curtains :D

About five years ago, my parents were helping me with some DIY, but went back home for tools. Minutes later, I heard raised voices and much coughing and retching in the entry, and went out, thinking it was my parents. I whipped the bottom gate open to be confronted by two youths, I gave them a piece of my mind as I thought they were using the entry as a toilet, they apologised, grabbed at the top gate, which turned out to be locked, unlocked the yale and ran out. I ran through the house to see where they were going, but they had gone. Seconds later, police, helicopter, cars etc. Turned out to be a pair of robbers who had stolen a car and driven it through a shop window on the main road (hence the retching, as one was winded), made their escape through the shop gardens and into the garden of the empty house next door. They thought they had found sanctury in the side entry to my house, only to be met by me. I don't think they were caught
