Richard
I can't resist putting up some photos of Arrietty - my little disabled Orpington. Those who have had the misfortune of reading some of my postings may remember that I got rather suckered into taking a little blue Orp with splayed legs and a problem gripping. Her right leg drags and doesn't function very well at all. Poor little girl, when she tries to scratch she falls over, even tho she puts her wing out to try to balence herself. Well, I have to say that she is doing really really well. She lollops around, hops and skitters when she has to move quickly (eg if Evil Georgy is in the offing) and plods very deliberately when she isn't in a hurry. She's getting around much much better than she was before, and having a bit of room seems to have really done her good. She's even getting a bit confident and doesn't hide from all the others, but stands her ground, occasionally! I am really very happy with the way she is - my only worry is whether she will continue to be able to get into and out of the Cube (I've made her a ramp, but she still has trouble, and I may see about moving her into a different coop, maybe even the Eglu if the Cochins don't need it). But life is pretty good with regards to Arrietty at the moment. She is now about 18 weeks old and looks like; Edited September 16, 2007 by Guest

harveypup
She is beautiful I am sure she will be fine. As long as she can eat, drink and do chickeney things. We have a disabled goldfish (with no fin at the top or bottom) in our Biorb. He manages fine, although he does tend to go round in circles

He manages fine, although he does tend to go round in circles thanks very much. Awww love the goldfish. But don't all goldfish go round in circles? Sorry, I'm being silly. 'If I should stay, I would only be in your way' who wrote it, who recorded it (name 3 people, including the person who wrote it). 'I would have given you all of my heart, but there's someone whos torn it apart.' who wrote it, who recorded it (again, 3 people including the author). I know, they're really easy ones, but they can get harder ... 'hope there's someone who will take care of me, when I die' - Mercury prize winner, ex backing singer for Lou Reid ...... Nothing to do with Lou Reid, anyone heard the Cinematic Orchestra track featuring Lou Rhodes? absolutely fantasic, like Lamb but even better!!!!! Richard
Arietty is lovely. thank you Egluntine - I'll tell her. She'll be flattered! She's named for my favourite literary character - when I was a child. Arrietty was the lonely, only daughter of Pod and Homily Clock in the Borrowers. Snowy
She looks great Richard - good to see she is enjoying life! I only know one of your songs, sure Dolly wrote it and performed it, followed by Whitney. Who is the third person though? Hm.

Richard
And yesterday, Arrietty surprised me no end! Daisy had a bit of a go at Arrietty because she wanted the exact same blade of grass that A was looking at. So Arrietty turned round and had a go at one of my buff sussex! Its the first time that A has asserted herself at all. I've renamed my Buff Sussex - one of them has turned into the eternal victim - she is a bit smaller than the other one and has definately given up any pretence at being 'hard'. She jitters about, all nervy, and seems to relish being the owner of the bottom place in the order. She used to be mates with Arrietty but I think A has decided that she needs to move up! So I've renamed her Wimpy. The other Buff Sussex I've called Jordon. My Buff Sussex are strange chickens. Then don't bully anybody as far as I can see, but they also don't seem to have any personalities. All my other girls have distict personalities and I can relate to them as individuals. The BS pair are just .... chickens. Ummmmm Evil Georgie is still strutting round the run being very important; the others avoid her. It has made the seven new girls stick together more than they used to! chicken watching - its better than people watching!
harveypup
They are great aren't they Arrietty sounds like a real charachter. Yes a Biorb is a fab fish tank that has a biological filter so you only need to replace this and a bit of the water every 6 weeks or so and the water remains crystal clear. They are pretty expensive but I got mine on ebay for £25 including postage... Bargain http://www.biorb.com
The Dogmother
She's gorgeous Richard and seems to be doing well from your accounts. She'll always be your favourite if you're anything like me I love my BiOrb too, I've had one since they came out (also a bargain) and it's fantastic. Richard
She is gorgeous and so lucky to have such a good Dad! we used to have Scottish Terriers - we had 30 years when we weren't without any (we always had two at a time) - and one of them was called (suprise suprise) Haggis. My wife was quite taken aback once as being introduced by one person (who we used to meet on the dog walking round on the sea bank) to another as 'Haggis' Mummy'! The Dogmother
My wife was quite taken aback once as being introduced by one person (who we used to meet on the dog walking round on the sea bank) to another as 'Haggis' Mummy'! Priceless! Both our bunnies have daft names (Rosie named them), and our dishy new vet stuck his head round the door last visit, looked straight at me and said 'Hunny Bunny?'. I told him that he could call me anything he liked.... much to the amusement of the waiting room and nurses. Poor lad now can't look at me without blushing Just you wait until Cupcake needs to go to the vet!!!
