Egluntyne
It is certainly very windy here....but it has blown the clouds away. There are fallen apples and leaves everywhere!

The Dogmother
Was one of them in Banbury by any chance Chooks? The park at the bottom of our road looks like a giant with an axe has attacked it - large bits of tree down everywhere, and the park staff are all working like demons to get it cleared up. Guest
Don't think so, but according to Sky News Other extreme wind events are reported to have occurred up and down the country Full story >>HERE<<
The Dogmother
Thanks for that Hon - they're not far from us I was woken up in the small hours by a bang that I thought was thunder (wasn't really awake), but then realised that it was the wind bringing down a tree in the park. The cats were spooked and Biscuit was chasing Georgie around the house like the wall of death It's still incredibly blowy here, but the slates are all still on the roof, but the chooks don't like it blowing up their petticoats! Lesley
I've just mentioned this elsewhere Clare - they have been in our area and have just been on the news. We have stuff all over the place from through the night - it was very scary at times.

The Dogmother
Phil just called to say that he took my camera down to the park and took photos of the damage - I'll post them tonight when I've downloaded them. It's starting to get windy again here
Cinnamon
Its a good line drying day here - warm, sunny & very, very windy I have had to put extra pegs on everything - I don't want my delicates fluttering around the village
Lesley
certainly not! When we got up this morning, we kept looking out of different windows and saying "what's that?" - and "Oh! it's the spare duck pond" and "erm.. I think that's the scarecrow"
The Dogmother
My neighbour's fence, which borders on to my garden and he's supposed to be fixing, was down this morning - I pulled it up so that the chooks couldn't get through and wedged it in place. I had waterproofs on, but my PJs were soaked through by the time I got back indoors
craftyhunnypie
It's quite windy here in sandbach too. The little chooks are in & out of the eglu. Letting the wind blow through their knickers then running in the eglu like as if playing a game of dare! The big girls are quite happy pecking round the cube & I've had 2 eggs from them today - SO they aren't that bothered by the wind. Going my parents later - when the lemon curd drizzle cake is out the oven. The thing is my car is very very low to the ground and the wind gets under the wheel arches & it's a bit swaying in the wind. I'll take my time. Roll on new car! Anyone want to buy my Triumph Spitfire....orange cube coloured!!!! I can't believe how cold it is today - my nose is freezing! I'll be puting my DR. Who scarf on later I think! Egluntyne
It all looked quite alarming on the one O'clock News. A concrete bus shelter had been lifted by the wind! No -one injured so far thank goodness.
The Dogmother
Ooo, a spitfire, I am sooo envious.. if only I had the cash.
BeckyBoo
We're about 5 miles from Farnborough as the crow flies (or the bus shelter ) and at about 7.15 this morning it started to get dark, and it got darker and darker til we had to put the lights on then the rain came down in SHEETS! I actually said to OH "that's a real storm front!" It was AMAZING! How glad am I it was over by school run though and we didn't have any damage caused which was pretty amazing, still windy tho - off to work at 5ish, no doubt there'll be trees down everywhere! Can't believe no one was injured, thank goodness for that. So, that'll be Tropical Britain not temperate Britain then! Mrs B
Guest
I think that Britain actually has more tornadoes than any other country. It's just they're not usually bad so don't hit the news.
Snowy
I've had the radio on all day (instead of CBeebies ) and been listening to the weather reports. They weren't tornadoes they were squalls If those were squalls I'd hate to see what a real tornado could do! Quite pleasant here once the rain stopped - sunny and windy. Typical - the rain stopped and the sun came out just as the tumble dryer finished.

Yes, thats right. Per square mile we have more tornados than any other country. Obviously some places like the USA & Japan have heaps, but they are bigger,so we win on the square mile measurement. Theirs tend to be MUCH nastier than ours too - I think we average an F1, whereas an F3/4 would be commonplace in America, with the worst one being an F5 (yes, I have seen Twister )
Charlottechicken
Every road towards work was flooded this morning I drove through about a foot of water, couldn't see the road or the kerb, later found out that the manhole cover had been lifted by the force of water and someone got their wheel stuck in it and blocked the road. I am so glad it wasn't me! It was so dark this morning too, chooks didn't want to come out!
The Dogmother
Mine were like that too Claire, I went running down the garden in my PJs, wellies and waterproofs to let them out, they took one look and said 'you must be joking Mum' The wind kept getting up their petticoats and making them jump - they hate it. Charlottechicken
Just found this, the tornado that hit Brum in July 2005 was a T4 (on a scale of 1 to 10) Look at the last pic, it was huge! It is less than 2 miles from my house, the greeting card shop is opposite Woolies on Kings Heath High Street. We get a lot of little twisters too, but I have never seen one, even though I have nice views towards this part of the city http://www.bbc.co.uk/birmingham/content/articles/2005/07/28/tornado_feature.shtml
Cinnamon
Just found this, the tornado that hit Brum in July 2005 was a T4 (on a scale of 1 to 10) Look at the last pic, it They have used a totally different scale to how Tornadoes should be & usually are staged - the Fujita scale. That runs from 1-5 wih 1 the smallest & 5 the biggest. Makes it very confusing & some may think it was an F4, when it was probably only an F1or F2
