Helen&Lee
So what time do your chooks turf themselves out in the morning? Ours seem to be ridiculously early at the moment - we leave for work at 6.30am - it wasn't light yet today and they were all tumbling out - probably so they could have a quick shout at us before we left Helen
superjules
I opened them up at 6.45 this morning, they looked at me all sleepily as if to say "You must be joking!" Neither ventured out til 7am but it wasn't a very appealing looking day at that point, all grey and cloudy.
Laura & CTB
I'm opening the door for them at about 6.30am just before I leave for work - they've had the door open all summer but last Sunday Prada was up a 5.30 shouting at the top of her voice I feel sorry for them in winter when it's still pitch black at 6.30am - they stagger out of the eglu bleary eyed and look at me as if to say "What the heck????" Egluntyne
It is getting later and later. They come out when the light reaches a certain level.
parmaviolet
last year we started letting them out later & later, coz Emmy & Mini were making so much noise I was worried about the neighbours. Now if I open the eglu door before 7.30 they are a bit miffed and refuse to come out right away Well I supose, June and Emmy are retired now! I've been know to oversleep after a night on the town & I've not got them up till 8.15 They really don't seem to mind & don't make any fuss/noise until they hear the back door open. Of course, the new girls...got last Sunday...don't know about all this and they want to be up at the crack of dawn. They are sleeping in a large rabbit hutch at the mo, so I let them out first. AMO
The last few nights I have shut the eglu door but not locked it - they let themselves out as soon at it is light enough without any fuss. I always check them about 8am before I leave to make sure they are out and open the door properly so they get back in to lay. Good girls or what? moochoo
I opened the cube door at 6am this morning. It was still quite dark but the girls stumbled out eagerly for breakfast. I really thought that they'd wait until it was dawn. Bless 'em.
craftyhunnypie
Mine are 7.30 - 8am. Usually 8am.... any later & Rita gets in a panic thumping around the cube. Any earlier than 7.30am and they just stay in the nest until they are ready. No pleasing them is there? Emma.x
chickencam
3 of ours were up at 3am this morning wandering around we think the hedgehog had disturbed them, we live on a street lit main road and there was a bright moon. Hubbie went out and persuaded them to go back to bed and shut their door fully. We had wedged their door open about 4 inches with canes so that they could come and go as they pleased because they have not worked out how to open the unlocked door themselves despite an attempt at training with treats through the gap. Door opening training tips would be appreciated because we will be away at October half term and it would be great for them to be warm but capable of letting themselves out in the morning. arowland17
we just shut ours more and more each night, so in the morning there's a small crack so they can see it's open and they just barge their way out now, although you do need to be around to re-open it for them as our stupid pair shut it after they've come out so then cant get back in to lay
Chickaboo
Mine get up around 7.30 and are a bit aggreived if its any earlier or later. However, they are funny about when the go out into the garden. My old two (RIP) wouldn't come out into the garden until they had about 30mins for breakfast, shower, putting make up on etc (I know what its like!). However, Daphne loves to be up and out first thing, but Phoebe can't cope with being out before her breakfast (I think she may get low blood sugar!?) she comes out because she feels she'll miss out otherwise, but skulks miserably around nipping back in for food at any opportunity. So we now have an arrangement, whereby I let them out before work - Daphne can run off, but Phoebe eats her breakfast out on the lawn, and after a good munch for 10 mins she's set to go!! badfizzgig
I open the door at about 7am every morning - most days they come tumbling out to get something to eat! Em
