Guest
We are considering adopting a retired greyhound from the Romford Dog Track.. I have been corresponding on another forum to ask if greyhounds and chooks can ever be mixed.. (freerange) I have had lots of encouragement - but nothing quite as sweet as this picture that proves they can co-exist!! how fab is that?? Snowy
Aaw, what a gorgeous picture! (but are you sure that chicken is actually alive?? )
chelsea
Awwww, lovely pic. Go for it Phil. I love greyhounds, they are more placid, quiet couch potatoes than what people think. (most people think they need 10 miles of running every day )
Karen & co.
That's a fab photo My sister has a retired Greyhound almost straight from the track, and Abi is a wonderful dog although I'm a little concerned when they come round as she does try to get closer to the rabbit I don't know what she would do with the chickens as I haven't let them free range whilst they are here karen x
Egluntyne
Lovely pic. My friends dad rescues greyhounds. They seem to make lovely pets.
Guest
Go for it Phil There are a lot of retired greyhounds around by us, we have a local track, and they are pretty cool looking animals One of Jules' friends has a couple of them, we see them quite often being walked around Great pic , by the way
chocchick
Ahh, I think the chicken has the proprtionally bigger cushion though
FORENSICA
I once met a grayhound breeder at a train and we talked about his dogs. He said that they are lovely with people (must admit that his huge girl's head was lying on my lap all the way , but anything smaller can become a prey (including even big dogs, cats, rabits,..). I think I would personaly look more into that before you bring one home
Lesley
Lovely photo Phil....... Perhaps it is something which only time will tell? - perhaps constant supervision for some time?.........

Snowy
I agree, I think care is needed. Obviously it can be done, but I've heard too many horror stories - a friends greyhound vaulted their garden fence and took out the neighbours cat! Looney
Love the picture! I think the Greyhound rehoming people will ask you plenty of questions about your lifestyle and try and choose a dog with the most suitable character. My friend has two ex-racing greyhounds and as she is able to pop home at lunch times they re-homed dogs with her that were identified as a bit needier and needed a bit of extra attention in the beginning. At least one of her dogs will chase anything so she has to be wary about the neighbours cats So I agree that you will need to be cautious but I'm sure you could get a dog that has no interest in chickens! They do make wonderful pets and it's not often you get a pet with its own tattoo!!!
Aunty e
I really really wanted to rescue a greyhound, but my OH is extremely unkeen. Right now we couldn't have a dog anyway, as there are too many people (two legs and four legs) in our house. They're such lovely dogs though. craftyhunnypie
Oh gorgeous!!!! Made me giggle! Greyhounds are great, my mum used to have one called Penny & she was so placid! Emma.x
chickencam
The owner of the cattery that I take my cats to has a greyhound and 4 cats of her own without any trouble. That picture does worry me though, that is a very unnatural pose for a chicken are you sure it was companion not prey?
Aunty e
Mine sit like that whenever they bask in the sun. It looks fine to me.

Lesley
When we looked at the rescue centre, they did have one greyhound who was listed as being fine with chickens - unfortunately, he was already spoken for
theherd123
Go for it Phil! That picture is so - it proves that with the right training and a good owner any animal can co-exist with another no matter how odd the combo!
