ali-s
Is there a law now where Dog owners have to clean up after their Dogs? For a few weeks now someone has been letting their dog do its business outside my house, but I have never caught the culprit until today. A couple of times it has been right next to the back garden gate and my Daughter has trodden in it. I have just seen a man who lives further down the road let his dog c**p in front of my gate. The man was in front of the dog and the dog was not on a lead. I was talking to my neighbour across the road about Chickens and we both stood gobsmacked while we watched it happen. I am sorely tempted to go and collect the offending article and post it through his letterbox with note. Should I contact the Council about this as I have a witness (neighbour) who could back up my complaint? I am not the type of person who normally likes to make a fuss or I would have challenged the man when the incident happened.
Mel (& Paul)
Yes you must clean up after your dog. Otherwise, under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 you face a fine of up to £1,000 if you do not clean up after your dog. It amazes me that dog owners allow their dogs to foul. We have three dogs and always scoop the poop. I hate it when i am walkign our dogs and find poo that other, irresponsible owners have left behind. I do understand that Councils can actually test the poop for dna so that they can prosecute owners. I would suggest you ring your local authority for advice. In the meantime dont be afraid to tell a dog owner who you see allowing their dog to poo without clearing it up that they have to.
SarahJo
Having recently got Tori, after being without a pooch for 18mths, I too get annoyed when there is poop left behind. I ALWAYS have nappy sacks in my pocket ... despite the boys now being nappy free, and clear up after my puppy. It gets right on my boobies too, when the kids tread in mess from other dogs, and I see piles of poo left behind when out with Tori. Typical though ..... the ones that always clear up after their animals, are getting a bad name through thoughtless, selfish others.

bracken
It happens outside our house sometimes But,i find cat poo more problematic than dogs poo! My own dog will go on the garden and roll in it Our patio area is covered in gravel and has since been used as a large kitty litter tray. clare*
My nasty neighbour kindly lets his dog out of the front door. The dog heads straight for my drive to do its business I wonder if the fine applies to incidents like this I would take great pleasure in reporting them, they are such inconsiderate people. I normally scoop it up (yuck) and fling it back so its outside their front door. They just leave it there With regards to cats - I found that orange peel torn into little bits scattered works a treat. My garden used to be a cut through for cats to get home. But they don't bother anymore
bracken
Sounds like a great tip. Will have to give that one a try. Thank you.
Mel (& Paul)
When our neighbours were having a loft conversion done the builder used to bring his collie. A nasty evil thing. He used to come onto our driveway and poo by the front door. I just used to go round and tell the neighbour that either she or he had to clear it up. I will clear up my dogs poo, and poo of dogs that are visiting. But not trespassing. She got all wimpy and said the dog pood in her garden too. Tough. Thats not my problem. I told the builder that if I saw the dog anywhere near our house again I would spray it with the hose.

Mel (& Paul)
Yup neighbours are still talking to us (not that we are talking to them) They came round to get the name of the chap doing some tree work in our garden as they wanted to top the trees between our boundary. We had a long discussion about how nice the trees were and that even though we lived in suburbia you couldnt see each others houses because of the trees. We then came home to find their idea of topping trees was to actually remove the lot including the stumps We ended up having to put up a fence, partly to give us privacy and partly to stop the dogs getting out. Last laugh is on them though - we bought leylandii and planted them on our side of the fence. Dont panic, we are not going to let them get above the legal height. It just means we have control over our privacy Putting a hose on a dog wont hurt it just give it a shock. And this particular dog was evil and used to run out onto the road at passers by barking and snarling
Mrs Blue Sky
Mel I used your dog-hosing tip to persuade Muttloaf that chewing chickens was not a good thing, and it works very well I must say. He now connects the hens with a face full of cold water, and steers clear.
The Dogmother
I like that Mrs BS - wouldn't have worked with our old lurcher, though, couldn't keep her away from the hose I totally agree about the dog fouling thing and I have a go if I ever see anyone not clearing up after their dog in the park at the end of our road. Lots of small children play in there and I knwo from experience how naty it is when they step in it. Apart from anything else it is a health hazard. Contact the council Ali and grass on him. I would be tempted to hang around behind your curtains with a camera and catch him in the act! Keep a log for a few days of when he is observed not clearing up and present it to the council - nice hefty fine coming his way Go girl, go! buffie
Yes I plan to put a sign up as we have a footpath off our develoment (it's not an estate but not being snooty ) People take their dogs (yes I always carry bags for poop and even got biodegradeable ones from waitrose baby section ) and just think 'oh it's rough ground'. It's a path and its **** alley now. I get it on my shoes and daisie gets it on her paws and children playing must take it home too. Disgusting We have signs saying they'll be fined but by who. Told local bobby and he said it's a council matter I hope a sign may make them feel uncomfortable enough to bend down and scoop, I'll be keeping an eye out for them. No one likes doing it but if it's your dogs stuff then you just do it! BBx
Guest
If you contast your council dog warden, I think they are responsible for enforcing the law, and they will clear up existing mess as well. We have problems here in the winter, because people just open their doors and let their dogs out, because they can't be bothered taking them out. Its disgusting. Yup, Charlie (the brown woggle rather than Blue the bouncy woggle) that you met will actually look the other way when he is walking past the chooks now (amusing moments follow when he walks into a bush, or the agility equipment )
