BeckyBoo
....Oh dear, none of you have seen me but I normally have long, thick, wavy red hair (not natural sadly, courtesy of a large pot of henna every couple of months) however, today, after growing tired of the stripy look, you know, grey on top, brown in the middle, red at the ends, (grey, and I'm only 39! ) I decided to go a shade closer to my natural colour. No, not grey, but chocolate brown. Or that's what I would like to be, sadly I'm more mud than chocolate. As I only had a couple of hours to play with before the school run I decided, perhaps unwisely, to put a pot of chemical dye (I know I know, sinner) but otherwise I'd have to wait about a month before I could find whole day to apply a thick green paste then wander about the house looking like Shreks ugly sister for 5 hours waiting for it to take. Anyway, bought a reputable brand, because I'm worth it, of "natural dark brown". Having washed it off, (bearing in mind it's permanent, and no, I didn't do a strand test cos I've had black hair pink hair blue hair so I just tend to do these things in haste (and repent at leisure no doubt.....)) it seems to be more Morticia than Andi Mcdowell. So, repeat after me, "Dear God, please let Mrs B's hair get lighter as it dries......." Mrs Bertie aka Morticia
Snowy
Oh dear Mrs B! Well they do say a change is as good as a rest, and halloween is nearly here!
Aunty e
Exactly the same thing happened to me last week, except preceeding that was a trip to the hairdresser who didn't understand the difference between one inch and six (surprisingly not a man). last week I had long wavy auburn hair. Now I have a scary black shoulder length fright wig. I'm unimpressed. It has however gotten lighter with every wash (thank goodness). BeckyBoo
OMG Aunty E, that sounds awful! I never go to hairdressers, they never get it right (or maybe I have unrealistic expectations!) Another bad thing about my hair (which is fractionally lighter) is that I'm off on the school run then to work so have to endure all those "Oooooh, have you dyed your hair?" questions. "No, I fell in mud on the way here!" One good thing though,my bright red lipstick looks particularly fab! Mrs B
Cinnamon
Same thing happened to youngest daughter Cleo, who wanted to get rid of the gorgoeus goldy red tones in her hair & dye it mid brown. It came out nearly black, & she was highly delighted with it It was a semi permenant one & a good brand, because she is worth it too The general concensus of opinion here was that this brand comes out very ,very dark It did fade pretty quickly though, & she is now banned from hair dyes Hope your settles down too .........hats are in this year
The Dogmother
Ooopsy daisy! Never mind, nearly pantomime time.. can you wear it up for work? They'll never notice and hair colour usually fades quite quickly. I quite enjoyed being red last winter.

Egluntyne
We've all done it Mrs B. I'm sure it won't be as bad as you think it is. I've absolutely no idea what colour my hair is nowadays. It has been "enhanced" chemically for more than 10 years. It was a very nice "red setter" shade of auburn when I was young. I've got the freckles and dark green eyes to prove it. Nowadays it is anywhere on the spectrum between plain brown, dark red, plum and black. The first time I went to my hairdresser, she said..."Hmmmmmm...I like a challenge!" It will fade....they are never as permanent as they claim to be. And as my Dad used to say.....never mind love....it'll grow!
The Dogmother
Mine's the closest it has been for ages to my natural colour - almost totally grey underneath I've gone shorter too - my hair that is, not me.. I can't get much shorter!
Fabergé
I always leave it to my hairdresser after some frightening DIY results. A good stylist is worth her weight in gold - nothing worse than a literally 'bad hair day'. I even followed her when she changed salons!(does that count as stalking?) Looney
Don't panic Mrs B, I'm sure it looks fab and you'll carry it off no problem at all. I try not to panic about hair....(try).....the good thing is that it grows back (well, usually ) so I really try not to panic if I come across an over-zealous / blind / drunk / bored hairdresser I once cut my own hair - I was skint - it took about four hours with a pair of nail scissors. I was only intending to take a bit off the front but one thing led to another. Looked ok actually - OH didn't even notice until he saw the big pile of hair inthe bin I don't dye my hair as I'm far too lazy, I only get around to having it cut about twice a year so no chance of keeping up with colouring too. I used to have some interesting colours though....
chocchick
Could a hairdresser do something, if it looks bad?
The Dogmother
Usually - mine are often correcting home dying disasters or problems from other hairdressers.
Cate in NZ
Oh Mrs B I have seen your hair and it's glorious, I'm quite envious, I always wanted rich, thick, long curls like you I'm hopeful that once the colour has calmed down a bit, and you've got used to it it'll look every bit as gorgeous as it did when it was red. Popcorn
How's the colour looking today Mrs B? Hopefully it will have faded a little and you'll also have got over the shock. I'm sure it's not as bad as you first thought. We almost had divorce in our house recently over hair. I always trim my OH's, but I hadn't done it for quite a while and it was getting really long. He asked me to cut it, and I cut off more than he wanted. Blimey! I've never seen such a fuss. It's hair! It grows!! I thought it looked rather 'Johnny Depp' myself. Very nice! Two weeks on and he can get it back in his hair band again. Calm resumed.
Popcorn
Arr...I just read the Mrs B has left the country! Surely the hair wasn't that bad! We'll have to wait and see now!
Paola
Paola - just use the clippers and take it off when he's asleep! Dont tempt me I had to have words with him on Sunday and thankfully he shaved off the offending items Gina, will OH not go to the hairdressers to have his trim? Not sure if I have already mentioned this but a neighbour was going on a hot date and he wanted me to tidy the back of his head. Anyway I slipped and took a chunk of hair off He did see the funny side of it, eventually

Paola
I wish I had taken a pic now and we could all of had a good laugh His sideburns, if that is what you could have called them, were very odd. They stuck out a little and looked like handles. The overall look was not a good one

Egluntyne
I can imagine! I go for the streamlined look in my men! You'd approve of my sons then, who both think a no 1 is too long. You'd be forgiven for thinking we were the Sheffield HQ of the BNP when they practically shave their heads.
