jomaxsmith
Well, they are here! We went for a Rhode Star, Maran Cuivre and a Coral. The Coral is a little older and is already laying and has decided she's the boss and she was first out; the other two took about an hour to venture out but since then all three have been chucking out the Hemcore, snapping at midges and generally entertaining me. I think my blood pressure is going to benefit from being forced to sit and watch them for hours at a time. My husband insisted the boys be allowed to name them so one has the name of their cousins' kitten and another one is named after a penguin in the movie Surf's Up. Hey ho! In my mind they'll probably be called Red, Black and White! Jo

chocolatedog
Won't stay pristine and new for long........!!!!
jomaxsmith
The Eglu is secondhand so it's not too pristine! The hens have been busy removing as much of the Hemcore as possible to explore the soil beneath so it may be messy very quickly! I was bit worried they weren't going to realise night meant going into the Eglu but the slightly older Coral went in and the others followed a bit later. I rushed out and shut the door before they could come back out again! Jo

chickenlickin
Congratulations, I was wondering what you would go for in the end. Are you still planning to go to Frank's talk on 18th November? I did like the coral's myself before I chose the Silver Nicks. Happy Hens means Happy Mums!
jomaxsmith
Are you still planning to go to Frank's talk on 18th November? I hope to but it's a busy time of year with kids' parties and so on - it would be great to meet you if you're planning on going. My Coral has laid 3 eggs since we've had her (2 'proper' 1 softie that she ate ) and we're settling into the routine. Hubby has just announced he will be cleaning the Eglu at the weekend which is good as I didn't want to give my precious 2 hours of child free time tomorrow over to scrubbing the roosting bars! He's also going to finish securing the fence and then we can let them out. They are really keen to explore - every time I open the run door they seem to be working out if they can sneak past me!
