Janty
We are always hearing about bad neighbours complaining about chickens so I thought that I would let everybody know about our lovely neigbours. I brought up the subject of getting chickens at the beginning of the year and showed our neighbours the eglu brochure. They loved the idea. Finally, in October our cube arrived and we collected 7 chickens from Merrydale Poultry in Leicester. Our neighbours called me at work on the Monday to tell me that the bantam was having serious problems with the big girls picking on her. They tried to separate her but our side gate was locked. They lent us their guinea pig run to house the bantam during the day until a new chicken house arrived from omlet. They encouraged us to get some more bantams to keep Popcorn company and they never complain when Naughty Sporty leads the other girls under the hedge to their garden. They came over today to help to create Pekin Paradise as we now call the side of the house and they send over bits of brocolli and grapes for our girls. Every time I read about horrible, spiteful neighbours, I thank my lucky stars that we have Phillip and Michelle.

Snowy
Janty that's really good to hear! It's true there are many stories of awful neighbours - it's good to know they aren't all like that! My neighbours are also lovely. (Must be Leicester - nice people in Leicester )
Janty
That's lovely ... we should have a neighbour of the month award. Any suggestions for award names???? eggcademy awards? Ooo, that was poor!
Janty
We are actually in Suffolk. Only drove to Leicester for our girls as the lady at Merrydale Poultry sounded so nice on the phone and she had all the breeds that I was looking for. Snowy
We are actually in Suffolk. I just knew you'd say that as soon as I posted Oh well, Leicester and Suffolk folk then. I got my last 3 from Merrydale. You are right, she was very nice - bit tempting to have her there on my doorstep though. I wouldn't want to push my neighbours any further though! Egluntyne
One set of my neighbours is absolutely fantastic. Always friendly and helpful. Gave me a beautiful chicken bowl once to thank me for the eggs. The other...well we have an armed truce at present....with us having the upper hand...she has had a warning for harrassing us, and we wouldn't hesitate for a moment to drop her in it another time. if she starts her nonsense again.....we gave her far too much slack last time. She's very nice when she wants to be, bit like all bullies....can't cope when stood up to. Somebody posted something about E + R =O recently. Very true. So i have had both types of neighbour. I don't need to tell you which I prefer.
Ain't Nobody Here
I have lovely neighbours on one side and slightly irritating ones on the other (problems with our dog rather than hens ). The nice ones came round the day before we were going on holiday and said they'd been wondering about the chickens and could they help looking after them . I was sorted already but it's great to know I can now ask them in future (hadn't liked to without them offering first!)

Madchook
I think I can add my neighbours to this list now We have only lived here for 6 weeks so I haven't had a chance to find out what they thought, but today I found them chasing three very naughty ecape artists back in my front gate and they told me they thought they were great:lol: We only have the one set of neighbours and they shouldn't be too bothered as we have a very big garden and back onto farmland (so why oh why are the chooks suddenly obsessed with breaking out to the parking area???!!!!). But turns out yesterday afternoon Toffee was pottering around their front garden - the couple have a profoundly disabled daughter and they had left her wheelchair by the kitchen window and they suddenly heard her laughing (which is quite rare apparently) .... Toffee was only perched on their kitchen windowsill pecking at the glass Aww, warmed my cockles that did Gave 'em 6 eggs to sweeten the deal (and make up for all the chook sh*t in their front garden )

little chickadee
We get on really well with the 80 something yr old to one side of us and he thinks that the chickens are excellent. Havn't told the other side - I'm just kind of hoping that they will never notice we have chickens!
