Richard
Why oh why do they front up such a superb programme with Bill Oddie. Kate Humble and Simon King are terrific presenters, happy to show the wildlife off to its best advantage, and so obviously captivated by the wonders of nature. Bill Oddie appears to be captivated mainly by his own presence. I can't think of another presenter who irritates me more. Only one thing seems important - Bill's comments, which are so often facile and of very little interest to anyone (except Mr Oddie). It would be such a fantastic programme if, just for one, he didn't show ...
Egluntyne
You weren't washed away with the high tide then Richard? Bill Odie has the most hideous feet in the universe.
Richard
You weren't washed away with the high tide then Richard? Bill Odie has the most hideous feet in the universe. No, you will be very pleased (?) to hear that I am still here - Victor Meldrew lives and thrives in North Norfolk! Actually I was down in London from Monday until Thursday (with a trip out to Eastbourne for a conference on Wednesday) and was quite worried about coming home; I did wonder if we would be under water when I came back late Thursday. Actually we have got off quite lightly - quite a few boats have taken a battering, but nothing really serious and no houses flooded I'm pleased to say. As far as Bill Odie's feet go - I haven't seen them, but I just find the whole of him awful - he comes over as so arrogant and full of himself. Unlike someone I can touch with a very short stick, who is mild, self effacing, tactful, humble ......... yes, I'm sitting here alone! Cinnamon
I agree. Cleo & I started to watch Autumnwatch, which we had never seen before but had heard people rave about. After 20mins we turned off as Oddie was so annoying.
Guest
oh he is nowhere near as annoying a Jelly & Jackson and PC Plum and all and sundry that I have to put up with. No Autmnwatch for me - just the Cbeebies version. Oh the antic...ipation when we find out "Who's hiding in the hide" Deep joy.

craftyhunnypie
He is horrid! I don't like! He looked out of it or as if he had a bird in his head when I caught the end of his nature Autumn watch thing the other night - get him off! Olly
Sorry, he ruins a really good programme with his inane wittering! I've discovered that it's actually best to record it, and then fast-forward through all the rubbish - it probably means missing some good stuff from Kate Humble but that's a price worth paying. xScrunchee
People are definitely very passionate about Mr Oddie. He's a bit like Marmite!!
Guest
I have to say I am not a fan of Bill, or the Goodies , but he did a programme about Hampstead Heath. It was filmed over a year and showed all the changes that went on on the Heath and it was one of the best nature programmes I have seen. Looney
I quite like Bill Oddie, it's quite refreshing to have a different style of presenter (and yes, I am being serious!), one that doesn't fit the usual presenter stereotype, and although he does ramble I like the fact he is enthusiastic about the subject. CatsCube
Did anyone see him a while back on Nevermind the Buzzcocks? I dont know if he is doing drugs r something but he was mad as a hatter, it was really imbarrasing and he just kept mumbling stuff to himself and laughing while everyone stared at him blankly. Guest
I did see that and I think it showed he was a typical comedian and has no sense of humour in real life I also saw the programme that traced his family tree (Who Do You Think You Are?) and that did him no favours either

I didn't like the Goodies either. There were so many good comedy programmes at the time on TV and radio, and I thought it was a rather poor imitation. I sound a real negative person - I'm not really, I think there are some terrific comedians around, but there are some progs that are classic (Blackadder, Rowan and Martin, Fawlty Towers, Python, Young Ones, TWTWTW, Sorry I'll read that again etc.) and there are some that, imho, were rubbish - Goodies, Vicar of Dibley etc.). But we're not all the same, and isn't it a good thing?
Tessa the Duchess
Bill Oddie is currently appearing in one of those ghastly ads for the Post Office. He is sitting in a box blowing on a whistle thing that attracts ducks and the PO fills up with ducks, at least I think they're ducks, could be seagulls? I loathe this series of ads, trying to make out the Post Office is a lovely friendly cosy institution, where the truth is that half of them are closing down which is really having a bad effect on rural communities, AND as everybody knows, a trip to the Post Office requires a packed lunch and a good book....the queues are horrendous Tessa

They are going to close one of our little local offices (in the corner of a village shop) and they are also closing the lovely office in Lynn and putting the PO into W H Smiths. Grrrrrrr. What is the world coming to.
Egluntyne
Am I the only person in the western hemisphere who didn't "get" Fawlty Towers? I used to sit stony faced through every episode. that I was unfortunate enough to be subjected to...but then Basil was so like my Uncle Ralph in every way that I an be forgiven, I think. Yes, but so did Pop Idol in 2002 - and I reckon that's even worse than the Goodies!
theherd123
Does anyone actually have a picture of Bill Oddies feet?
Egluntyne
I saw them on the episode of Who Do You Think You Are. He whipped his shoes and socks off to compare feet with a cousin he had never met. Apparently Oddies have a distinctive toe or summat. Anyroadup...I have never seen a more neglected and disgusting pair of feet in all my life. Thickened revolting toenails, bunyons, corns...you name it. Certainly should not have been aired publicly even after the watershed.

Richard
I will never forget Ade Edmondson on the young one's skit on Universally Challenged - stamping his foot through the floor and coming through onto the team below. Absolutely classic.
