dress etiquette question....

Now, d'you reckon I can drop a dress size by 6th December?:lol::lol:

Just don't make the mistake I did. For a good friend's wedding I bought a lovely floaty dress (don't do dresses/tights/girlie shoes - should've been a bloke) from TK Maxx (classy, me!) but had to keep wobbly bits at bay so bought BIG pants (went up to the oxters if you get me). Half way through the evening I had to go & remove them, I was so uncomfortable  .

If you're going somewhere formal, make sure you have good undies on. If you get those right then you'll feel confident.

I would recommend the Personal Shopper service at John Lewis. You tell them the occasion, price range and they'll sort everything for you. They briong arm fulls of clothes, you're under no obligation to buy and it doesn't cost you a penny. If their prices are too expensive, look at what they've suggested and shop somewhere less expensive for a similar item. Be warned tho, you have to book in advance.

A few years ago I had to get an evening dress for OH's Christmas do, was in a flap, they found something which looked stunning (even if I do say so myself) and it wasn't anything I would have chosen myself.

If you want something Per Una-esque but cheaper, try Christian Marcus Direct or the Klass range at T J Hughes. I think both shops have nicer stuff than Per Una and there is less chance of spotting someone else in the same outfit!

Or pop down to your local charity shop where you will probably find all last years Per Una range :D

It kind of annoys me when you have to be 'Posh' what does that actually mean!

By the way it has nothing to do with White Star Lines trips to India, that is a myth. There was never any documented proof of the 'Port out Starboard Home' thing.

My definition of 'Posh' is someone who wants to be what they are not! hence 'Posh Spice'

Dress smart and be yourself and have a good time!

The little black dress always works, for us not so stuffy types!:wink::wink:

Just a quick update to say I trawled everywhere, found a gorgeous cocktail dress in Next - sold out for ever, went round Woking (designer capital of the South :? ) and found a lovely one off bronze coloured "frock" in TK Maxx, bought it in a rush only to find when I got it home it had been put on the wrong coat hanger so was too small. Eventually ended up at M and S with my Dad, smallest boy and Eldest Daughter which was a NIGHTMARE Was on the verge of giving up when I found not one but TWO dresses, tried them both on, couldn't decide so dad said, "Oh well, have them both then!" and so I am now sipping a pina colada, nails painted, hair piled on top of head smothered in henna (gone back to belisha orange - brown was nice, but I'm a wild red head at heart!!) Dress is a gold / bonze colour, sort of crocheted (dad thinks it looks like chain mail!) with jacket to match, bought a pair of shoes and a bag today and at 6.30 I'm off out. It's only the Royal Logistic Corps Christmas concert and reception, but I never go anywhere so I'm really looking forward to it! Thanks for all your help, my house is full of kids who are terrorising the place but I don't care, cos I'm in "the zone" and I'm going out! 8)
