Snowy
Don't believe it - I've been bidding on a cabin bed on ebay for the boys, only round the corner from me so would have been ideal. Someone had bid and I put in a bid £17 above their top bid. They outbid me with 20 seconds to go! How did they know? Why didn't they just stick another £5 on, that's what I tend to do Is there a way people can find out what my top price is? I am so annoyed! Geoid
Annoying Isnt it, but there are programs etc which peole can download which automaticly (sp?) put in their highest bid within the final seconds
Egluntyne
The winning bidder probably used ~~Auction Sniper~~ or similar. Bad luck.
Lovemychooks
What you can do is put your maximum bid on the item and Ebay will keep bidding on your behalf when other people put their bids in. This is how bids go up really quickly towards the end i.e. if the bid is £5 and the maximum you want to spend is £10 you need to put the bid in at £10 and wait for Ebay to bid, automatically, on your behalf. Hope i've explained that properly

Hope i've explained that properly that's what snowy did do It's called 'proxy bidding' but someone outbid her proxy bid with 20 secs to go. Never heard of auction sniper, bloomin eck, there's a bit of software for everything these days!
Snowy
Thanks Lovemychooks - thats what I did, put in the max that I was prepared to pay. The previous bidders highest was £17 less. I just found it curious that they still managed to outbid me. Egluntine, I think you were right, they must have used Auction Sniper Oh well, little boy will have to wait for his big boy bed (unless I ask on freecycle - now that would be a good one )
The Bantam of the Opera
that sniper thing seems a bit bad sport though.
Couperman
How would that work if you were to sell something on Ebay, and out bid yourself on purpose thus stitching the snipers up? Even if you won you would save on postage and wouldn't need paypal either! Everyone thinks Ebay is cheap IT IS NOT most of the stuff on there can be purchased brand new for less from the same suppliers the sellers use. I often laugh at people who out bid the 'Buy it now price' Like most good ideas, Ebay has been corrupted by people who want to make a fast buck selling things like 'Auction Sniper' On a brighter note the same software is probably riddled with spyware! Cinnamon
Auction Sniper is fantastic - I NEVER bid any more....I SNIPE Because it bids in the last few seconds, you can often nab bargains that have no bids so far. it also runs on a proxy bid basis,so the first bid logged is the starting bid - therefore you can still go up to the max you want to pay for the item & the chances are you will win at way lower that that. as an eBay with over 1500 posotive feedbacks I am very careful about my account & the way I bid. And no, it is NOT full of spyware,& it costs almost nothing to use too
Snowy
Well, they say every cloud has a silver lining! After losing the auction last night, I did another search and found the very same bed, within 5 miles of my home (rather than 10) and managed to get it for £20 less than the bid on the original bed So the sniper lost out in the end

Lesley
I'm glad you found one Snowy I have used sniping - but I can only do it if I've already put in a normal bid I hate to see something that has been sniped where the person winning has not bid before Just me.... I know I'm odd
Guest
I use Auction Sniper loads I don't do it at 20 seconds though. I do it at 5! I LOOVE Sniping - don't do it on everything though, clothes ets are not sniped.

sparkleeeeee
i dont use sniper but i do wait until 23 seconds before the end then bid. i dont see any point in bumping the price up by bidding earlier, sometimes i will put a token bid on at the start and then wait until the end. its all part of the auction experience getting in at the last minute. the people bidding on the pink cube will be gutted that it was in the adtrader for £550 on wednesday (it was the same one as i called and checked) i was tempted but hubbie would hate pink. the green one went for £640 i think. the cube has an excellent resale value. well done snowy, i am glad you got the bed in the end
