Olly
Got an e.mail from JL today, my steamer has been despatched I have never been so excited about basically a cleaning item, I hate cleaning Tessa Me too Tessa! I am so excited ... I'm having it delivered to work, and so if it doesn't come tomorrow, I won't get it till Monday I am already planning where to start! I've just realised I am getting excited about CLEANING equipment. I need help!
Olly
IT'S HERE! I daren't undo the box, I'm at work and everyone will think I am nuts to be so excited about a bit of cleaning equipment, especially as my colleagues are almost all men. And I've got a friend coming round tonight - hmm, wonder if I could put her off for an hour, so I can have a play with it. OK, I really do need help. Has yours arrived, Tessa? OOOOH you lucky thing No mine hasn't arrived yet I really need to go out this afternoon to buy DH a birthday card, but I'm scared it will arrive while I am out I don't know what kind of environment you work in but if I was you I would unpack it and start steam cleaning your desk or workstation or whatever. Who cares what your colleagues think Tessa

Egluntyne
What a beast I have unleashed! I don't think I've ever started a thread that has run to 14 pages before! If I'd had a pound for everyone that has bought one because of this thread (plus my hairdresser and sister)...I could have bought another hen! Tiggy
I've had a steam cleaner for years, they are good but the novelty will wear off eventually, OH is away at week end so I may have a blast round the house with mine - oh no look what you've started
Olly
I don't know what kind of environment you work in but if I was you I would unpack it and start steam cleaning your desk or workstation or whatever. Who cares what your colleagues think Tessa Well my desk could do with a clean, now you mention it! I work in an open-plan office, so everyone can see what you're doing. It's a fairly light-hearted atmosphere here, especially on a Friday. Games of cricket using stress-balls and cardboard tubes were not uncommon, until someone knocked my cup of water over while I was on the phone and I let rip - ball-games have been banned since then! I don't think getting out a steam-cleaner would actually raise too many eyebrows, but plugging it in would be more than my life is worth. Apart from the risk of setting off the fire-alarm and evacuating the entire building (eight floors), I'd get ticked off by Facilities. You're not even supposed to use a phone charger if it hasn't been tested! I will just have to dream ... I might undo the John Lewis bag, just to have a peek! Egluntine, you have a lot to answer for! Tessa the Duchess
Yay!! mine has just arrived Definitely take a peek Snowy, just to make sure it's all complete DH looked a bit and said 'I thought you were going to buy nothing new this year?' "stuff necessary for work is allowed" said I. "What work?" he said. "Housework!!"..... Steaming will commence in 10 minutes after I've had a nice cup of tea to settle my nerves Tessa
Ziggy
Steaming will commence in 10 minutes after I've had a nice cup of tea to settle my nerves Okie, maybe it took me a long time to realise, but it's now official... we're all insane.... When I opened mine I was very sad there was no one here to roll the drum and oooh aaaah with me...

Tessa the Duchess
Just had my first steaming session brilliant! I am trying to work out which of the little attachment thingies to use for what. What do most people use for say doing bathroom tiles? and what would you use the metal one for? Tessa

Ziggy
I did wonder too when I opened mine, it seems the product is aimed at people who already know what they are doing... the instructions just say 'point chosen attachment at the area you wish to clean'... I had no idea what to use for what... used the large brush gently on upholstery... what do people use for tiles or solid surfaces?
Tessa the Duchess
I. the instructions just say 'point chosen attachment at the area you wish to clean'... I had no idea what to use for what... used the large brush gently on upholstery... what do people use for tiles or solid surfaces? I've been experimenting a bit. I would say the large brush on carpet or upholstery, the smaller brush for say taps and smaller items. I tried the small brush on tiles which was good, but useless for grouting, so I tried the little twirly hose thing and it works on grouting really well. Just trial and error I guess Tessa
Snowy
I found the spouty thing best for tiles and grout and used the large brush for the carpet
chickenlass
Has anyone else had an appliance with useless instructions?? I bought a microwave many years ago when they first became popular and the instructions were laughable to say the least. They had obviously been translated from Japanese [badly]...I can remember falling about at one of the lines which told you to "COOK TO REQIURED DONENESS

Ziggy
The manufacturers are going to wonder what is going on... Any time now the police will be looking into why these suddenly sell so well, for fear they are being turned into weapons or involved in some terrorist plot

Sheilaz
Oh yes I have! I thought about the stock control people thinking it really odd! There was once a radio programme where the DJ had the idea of telling everyone about a toy he'd seen, a cheap monkey I think, in a specific seaside shop. He then carried on throughout the programme, telling people, if you're near xxxx (this particular shop), go in and buy a monkey, they're only a pound. By the end of the show, he was laughing so much at the idea that the shopkeeper would be amazed at the unexplained rush on toy monkeys. Then, at the thought that he'd reorder massively...and be stuck with them all.
Joojoo
Just tried mine properly. Barney obviously thought I hadn't been working hard enough so proceeded to vomit on the landing carpet Fingers crossed it's got the mark out. Does anyone use anything else on the stained area first or should the steam work fine on it's own? Also, has anyone noticed how hot the steam gets? The carpet was cold and wet within a second of spraying it and I thought it would have been warm at least. Although it looks like steam, I wondered if it was just a very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very fine mist of cold water
Egluntyne
The steam is surprisingly dry and coolish. Having said that....I imagine it could give you a burn if you got too close to the nozzle. The steam should be ok on its own.
