Should I take him to a doctor?

Recommended Posts

So sorry to hear that Noah has pnuemonia - my eldest has had it 4 times, and has been admitted to hospital each time, hooked up to aall the machines, drip etc, and it really is horrible at the time. However, once everything had started to kick in, each time he was up and about and out of hospital, within a few days, and back to normal within a couple of weeks, and I'm sure that Noah will be the same.

You have my sympathies, I know how hard it is to see a young child in hospital, and how uncomfy the sleeping arangements are for the parents!

Remember to take care of yourself too. xxxx

Hello all thanks for all your kind wishes. I have just poped home again as my mum who has been lookimg after Dylan for me the last couple of days has said that his coughing lkike mad has a temp and has also stopped eating :(

I have asked the dcotor at the hospital who asuress me pnemonia is not contagious and just to take him to my GP to see what they say, so Im now off to get him from my mums for an apointment and then back to the hospital to take over with Noah.

Noah is going to be in for another night, he is hooked up to oxygen as he is still finding it hard to breath and is very weezy, the doctor today said she thinks it may be asthema which would explain why he is a bit prone to chest infections, so he has been started on a course of steroids and been given an inhaler.

In a good note he is drinking more and has started eating, (even if it is only quavers!)

speak soon!

I hope he is feeling better now, I work as an advanced nurse practitioner in a GP surgery & get calls like this all the time, the general advice is -

1. does he have diarrhoea or vomiting or both

2. is he passing urine normally(reduced if deydrated)

3. is he alert ie responds to you when spoken to

4. is he able to take a mouthful of fluid 3-4 times in an hour

If a young child has not been drinking well for 24 hours + then he needs to see a GP or senior practice nurse, most of these illness are viral at the moment but a child of 2 or less can dehydrate very quicky. All of the advice given on the forum is sensible, calpol, juice ice lollie (made from jiuce even) are all worth trying.

I never have a problem seeing children & worried mums, normally it is just reassurance that is needed but occassionaly thses kids are really ill. If you are ever worried about a young child do not hessitate to call your surgery

I hope this helps

Well good news, went to pick Dylan up from my mums and was met by a happy bright and exited little bub. He is doing some amazing snot exploding sneezes and has a bit of a cough but seemed pretty fine to me, took him to Docs anyway as already had the appointment made, he he said it was just a cold and was fine. He ate his lunch fine and just drunk most of his bottle and is having a good sleep now. He does have a bit of a temp but has flushed cheeks and is drooling, so I think its just a combo of teething and a cold and my mum just panicing. Shame as I could have done with just having a kip this afternoon, but never mind I think Sylan missed his mum.

Now gonna chill out and peruse the forum for 1/2 hour before heading back to the hospital and seeing how the little man is doing.

Well Dylan is happy as anything and has been behaving nicely for me this afternoon.

Noah is still in the hospital and it will be at least another night, The virus that casued the pneumonia is still in his system aiding the pneumonia and the asthema and its still making it hard for him to breath so he is still on the oxygen, their is nothing that can be taken for it as its a viris so its just a case of waiting it out so everything else can then get better.

Its very up and down at the moment, last night we had the prongs in his nose on full, and a mask on his face on full but his stats were still flashing red on screen as we couldnt get enough oxygen into him to get it above 90 where its ment to be. The doctor has checking him out and we were just throwing everything at him. Then all of a sudden he recovered. They said afterwards that that is sometimes the sign of a collapsed lung, which is why they were watching him carefully  However later that night his stats were over 100 which is a healthy adult reading, and that was with the lowest setting of oxgyen possible, so its up and down like crazy at the mo.

Hes coming home!!!!!!!!

Last night he went without the oxygen and his stats were really high, he was running round like a crazy thing this morning and seemed to be back to his oldself over night.

Im at home with Dylan right now just waiting for the hospital to sort out his meds and stuff to take away and his daddy will be bringing him home shortly.

I will be celebrating by making loads of banana bread and pancakes with all the bananas he got brought in hospital and the eggs I have accumulated in the past week!
