Guest
They should do really well with so much encouragement. Well done Jane!
clare*
Form downloaded and ready to go Mind you the last couple of days my eggs have been tiny. Maybe a future addition could be what do you feed them? Mine today as well as their Omlet pellets have had some chocolate cake, grapes and spinach Maybe I am overfeeding them
The Dogmother
Sounds like you spoil them! Can I come round to dinner? If that's what you feed the chooks on, what do the family get?
Hellcat
I'm in! the kids are quite excited. sadly, I am going to be head scientist 'cos they were bickering about it this afternoon (a 3 year old and a 6 year old - like an old married couple!) motherhen
The girls, who are really entering into the spirit of this, decided to try not to lay any eggs yesterday, so they would be all raring to go for the form today - bless Unfortunatelym Pollo had problems crossing her legs and just had to lay at dusk (those of you who have had babies will know the feeling). She's gutted that she won't be able to produce an egg today then However, the little ones, Doris and Mabel, did rather better (must be due to their young muscles and the hen equivalent of the perineal floor) and when I let them out first thing this morning, both had already produced their first little offerings in the cause of science The rest of the family are most concerned that this important research may lead to all the commercial hen houses round the country being painted in one of the eglu colours. The treacherous lot appear to be hoping pink won't win
clare*
Mine have gone on strike - No eggs waiting for me this morning I will go and check again in a bit
motherhen
I've turned the pdf into a word document (well I'm not geeky enough to do that so I've typed out a matching word document ) This is so I can just enter the weights onto the laptop in the kitchen (lazy or what) and then email it all off to Prof Penny If anyone wants a copy of the form on their computer then email me at motherhen@citychicken.co.uk and I'll email you one back as an attachment. It has been customised for my little darlings, but being a word document, you can just change it to suit your girls
SarahJo
Have mailed you Jane ..... as Graham could not get the PDF file into a word doc, that you could then update either . Have also put some photos in the 1st gallery of our very novel, if not very OLD, measuring apparatus. If any of you mods want to convert a pic to over HERE then please do. (am a bit thick when it comes to that bit ).

The Dogmother
My girls have only just laid there eggs today I was getting worried that my science form would be blank Isn't Rosie's favourite boy doing it then Clare*? Today was a 4 egg day - Layla is off laying at the moment. We had a blue one first thing from Dolly, nothing at lunchtime, then Lavinia, Sadie and Ruby had laid when i got home. So Rosie has 3 more eggs to catalogue when I collect her from Brownies.

SarahJo
Form printed and ready pencil sharpened Digital scales bought No eggs today ... I borrowed the scales (antique at that) from the adopted flock ... far more accurate than my kitchen ones, for this purpose. . Ginger has not laid yet ... though Ebony was squaking before bed, so I'll check the nest in a mo' when I lock them up. Mrs Snowy and Ebony have theirs recorded. . Don't rub it in Ah well, if I don't get any eggs for this experiment at least I have nice new digital scales which I have been wanting for ages Maybe I could borrow my neighbours chickens for a week they lay every day
AnnieP
If the chooks in yellow eglu's win, will they start producing them again?? Go girls go!!
SarahJo
Don't rub it in ..... , did not mean to ... Ginger laid yesterday, but it got pecked, or shunted, not too sure which. Anyway, the giveaway was damp paper in the nest box, with a sort of shimmer about it, and then a clump of thin shell in the poop tray. . Anyway Ali-s .... Ginger had NOT laid, and when I tucked them up, she was in the nest(nothing underneath ... I had a good root ). Ebony usually squaks when Ginger is laying .... for some unknown reason ..... but this time, I think Ginger was just bagging the nest for the night. . There will hopefully be an egg 1st thing tomorrow, so as chooks go its probably going to be pretty even over the period of recording. I just thinkits good fun, and maybe gets us all to take a closer look at our girls than usual. Would be really funny if the chooks in the did better ... a sunny colour and all that. AnnieP
Well, I predict that "the more light the Eglu lets through, the more eggs you are likely to get". There! Comparative sentence: National Curriculum Level 3! Approximate age: 8 years! Go yellow! 2 eggs today: 65 and 70 g
SarahJo
Good weights Annie ... my 2 were 61g(Starlight) and 65g (Amberstar) Gingers are usually the heaviest about 70g, but clearly she is having a no-egg day. Reckon the could be the best ... do chooks get S.A.D . Your 8yr olds theory sounds good to me.
