Guest
here's little shalott, not long after we got her... just been out and taken this one of her, she's still a bit bedraggled but her wing feathers are a lot better and notice all the fluffy new featherage around her neck. We put it down to the meal worms as her feathers started to improve a lot once we started giving them meal worms... also, DH has put a new perch in their run which they all love to stand on and have a good preening session. Here's a couple of Mariana today, hogging her place in the sun!
Guest
There is nothing better than seeing 'before' and 'after' picture of battery hens - I love to see the way they thrive in the arms of a loving family. You must be delighted at their progress.

Guest
just been out to have a peek at them and Maud and Shalott were both on the perch, couldn't take a pic in time as they both jumped off as soon as they saw me! My mum came round the other day and couldn't believe the difference in them, we don't notice it as much as we see them every day but we have noticed that Fatima is huge now and Maud isn't far behind her. We can tell they're all putting on weight and looking healthier. Long may it continue!

BeckyBoo
They both look lovely, has the standard of their eggs improved too? Ours are churning out the eggs bless them, I want to say to them that they can stop and have a rest but of course they just carry on, they've started using the nest now instead of dropping them in the run. But we noticed that the eggs were very thin shelled and the whites were watery, they're already a bit better now they've discovered they love mealworms too, didn't take them long! Can't wait til ours are less spiky to touch! And can't wait to see them out, this weekend hopefully (although they'll need armbands at this rate ) Mrs Bertie

DH mixes the oyster shell into their food and they get a seperate pot of grit. I wish ours would have a rest but they're bred to be egg machines, such a shame for them but hopefully they're happy, they seem to be I let ours out for a paddle this afternoon which washed the mud off their feet, first time I ever noticed their feet were pink! Guest
here's a close up of mariana the first day she arrived (shalott is behind her) you can see how well the feathers have grown back on her back especially. her crop was completely bald but now you can't see it for feathers. just went out to tuck them up for the night and peeked in to see where they all sleep and there was a sleepy chicken in each of the 3 nest boxes, not sure where the other one was! Somewhere cosied up in another part of the coop. Lovely that they can sleep in comfort, peace and quiet, compared to where they came from
