Rona
just admiring Monty and his shoes - I wonder if he has chickens?? I'm sure I read somewhere that he keeps chickens as he thinks that chicken poo is the best thing for his garden.
Rona
Oh Dear Seems he really doesn't like chickens http://lifeandhealth.guardian.co.uk/food/story/0,,1613414,00.html
The Dogmother
Woo hoo, Lesley is off Monty .... more for me then. Have you seen the size of his hands?
Egluntyne
You have made that observation before!
Lesley
Hang on.... I only said I wasn't watching this particular series..... I knew he had hens... but didn't realise he felt quite that way about them
Egluntyne
Hmmmm.... I find that a bit disappointing. What he says about feeding them is a load of baloney and I'm not happy at all about what he says about the cockerel he had as a student. MedusA
Having watched and admired Monty for years, I would suspect those comments in the article about hating chickens were tongue in cheek. Monty could do no wrong for me (if only he were a veggie, he would be perfect)! *sigh* Despite the size of his hands , I don't fancy him, just love his down to earth (no pun intended), honest approach to gardening. Loving the "Around the World" series, despite the carbon footprint. He is planting loads of fruit trees at Berryfields this year, so maybe it's to offset this! crazygal
I've read Monty Don's autobiography where he describes his depressions, he does suffer quite badly. I find him fascinating that he was in a completely different line of business (jewellery) in the 80s, was very successful then lost it all, then reinvented himself in the 90s with journalism then fell into tv. Didn't know about the anorexia though...
