YorkshirePud
HOORAAAAAAH Just got a date of a week on saturday (23rd Feb) to pick up our three girlies. Very very exited.
littleredhen
Oooohh, I bet you can't wait. We have to wait till the end of March for ours and I am counting down the days. Mind you we still have to get the garden sorted yet so we have plenty to do before then.
mayflower
Great news. Our date is 15th March, so a bit longer to wait. All the best with your girls
YorkshirePud
Thank you. So excited, feel giddy. Better calm down otherwise I'll just be a greasy spot by the time next weekend comes round.
Egluntyne
28th March for me too! Seems a long way off.
Guest
Oh I'm so jelous. I want mine NOW and Sat 23rd would be good for me but "the anti chicken" says not till March as there is a bit of a pond situaton going on in the run. It will be strange when I do get them and the eglu is in use again.
Egluntyne
Move the Eglu to a dry spot and ignore objections from other quarters if you want to get your ex-batts sooner. It will be lovely for them to feel the sun on their backs....and the better weather is coming.

Guest
I can't move the Eglu its in the run! I did point out that I would put the Eglu run back on for them at first and THAT could be kept out of the wet bit but no joy. I caught the anti chicken making mash for the girls the other morning and I KNOW we didn't have any leftover potatoes - she cooked them specially!!! Christian
She clearly loves the chickens, so stand up to her and tell her you are getting some!
Guest
I'm getting them but holding on till March. Just whistful thinking to get them sooner. I only said to her this morning shame we can't get them in February. Then I saw this post with the date of the Feb rescue!
peanut12
Hey yorkshirepud good to see a neighbour on here! We've got 4 hens atm but are looking to get 10 ex-batts in March for our school run. Might be after you for some advice soon! Good luck
Guest
I'm a neighbor too - I'm down in Rettendon. I'm organising an Essex meet at Barleylands in May - take a look down in the get togethers seciton. Oh and I'm working on the anti chicken over breakfast - I might talk her round. Would be nice to have the ex batts before I start my courses in March.
MedusA
I'm so jealous of all you lucky people getting ex-batts. I've 2 Araucanas on order, but after they are integrated, I really must see about geting some too. After all, I have to fill that new big run somehow, don't I? Muppet81
Hello Eglutine I notice you are getting some ex batts on 28th March. Would this be from the Lancashire rescue on that date? If so, do look out for Martin and I as we will be helping Adele on that day. It would be nice to see you again.
BeckyBoo
Well done all you rescuers, I found it surreal to think of the chickens still stuck in their cages having no idea that their world is about to get SO much better. Hang in there little chookies, real life starts here!! Mrs Bertie
mayflower
Hi to all the newbies like me who are new to henkeeping and are waiting with excitment to collect our new girls. I find because it is still 'theory' all the info wo'nt stay in my pea brain. So last week I bought a really nice notebook to write up all chicken information in! This includes a loooong shopping list of things to buy before they arrive. I'm also planning to keep a journal for the first few weeks, as I think that will be helpful to log and observe their progress. How about you? Rolo Rabbit
Hi Mayflower! I''m frantically gathering info too. I have a folder named 'hens' on my desktop and as soon as I learn something else new to tell hub I copy it straight into there. I've read 3 books on chickens now and it's sooo frustrating waiting for it all to become reality. We're still building the run and waiting for the hen house which we bought on ebay. Apparently a crane collapsed at Felixstowe and the ship containing our coop was diverted to Antwerp. That was 10 days ago and it's now supposed to arrive on friday when we'll be away! AAAAGH! Ah well - it's going to be very exciting when we do finally get our girls.
Scooby
28th March for me too! Very much looking forward to getting our new girlies. Little chickadee is in the process of knitting 4 jumpers for them (eternally grateful) and DH is out in the garden with my FIL in the process of building our new run. littleredhen
Yes my hubby is out in the garden at the mo laying flags to put the house and run on. There are quite a few of us getting our girls on the 28th March, can't wait.
Janty
HOORAAAAAAH Just got a date of a week on saturday (23rd Feb) to pick up our three girlies. Very very exited. We went for three and came back with five.
alih
oh guys I'm soooo . Especially of those of you going to Lancs to get your girls - I have done all the groundwork and info collecting and really want to get some ex batts to merge with my 2...this of course involves getting a cube then once they have merged selling our little eglu on ebay...but OH is determined not to rush things! I tackled him about it over our Valentine's dinner ( always a good time I'm sure!) and he has capitulated to the extent that he say we CAN get ome ex batts but "next year".....which for him is quite a step forward...does anyone know how long they take to merge and how much loooking after they need at first? Ie would I have to take time off work? Will keep plugging away at OH in the meantime!
Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations to all of you getting ex-batts soon . Something I did when I started out (and still do, TBH), is anytime I read something useful on the forum, I save the post to my "favourites" under "chicken advice". There's nothing more annoying than remembering something you've read but not being able to find it . The forum search doesn't work too well IMO.
