crazygal Posted February 17, 2008 Share Posted February 17, 2008 Well the ice on the glug was so thick I couldn't break it with the pole thingy that holds the run door in place (which is what I had been doing up to now) Tried to get water out of the water butt- no luck, so went and filled their treat bowl with tap water. Oh dear, they were not happy when I bought that in for them. I'm going to have to make it up to them later with some extra yummy treats methinks. A stick didn't even work at breaking up the ice today and I used boiling water. They came out for a bit of breakfast, but I didn't open the run door as the garden is just frozen solid. They've now retreated to the eglu in disgust! The glug is deep frozen, the water butt is deep frozen and the water I put in their grit bowl is now deep frozen too - Aaaagh. Just taken a watering can of hot water out to defrost the chooks - for the first time ever we have frozen nipples on the glugs! Luckily the normal glug still works if topped up with hot water I have fruit cage netting and chicken wire around the flower beds and you can't normally see it. This morning every strand is frosted with white! It looks very beautiful, but I'mnot hanging around outside to admire it Even the girls look a bit miffed this morning - duvets all plumped up and on maximum tog Brrrrrrrrrr!! The Eglu door was frozen shut for the first time, it is undercover in the run so the soil is not frozen usually, which is nice for the girls.
