Hellcat
No idea - whats that then? Is is a good tent? I'm a bit concerned about the camping thing. All the tents I have looked at don't seem to have a bath in them, no fridge (what do I chill my wine in then?) and no loo, let alone a loo roll holder. Wheres the range oven? The Dogmother
I think I'll get a tent then as well - I can wear it. Was it Millets selling the Cath Kidston one? They are so pretty Lesley, as you can imagine Rosie loves them, but NOTHING would entice me to go camping - I am at the age where I appreciate a warm bed and a hot shower in the morning, and my OWN loo (helen)
Hellcat
Clare I know how you feel. Used to do it really basic when in the air cadets. Thought all that was behind me then the Big Boy gets it in his head to join friends of ours. The last laugh will be on me though - when he realises that the kids don't go to bed at 7.30!! The Dogmother
Hah! I roughed it while travelling in my early twenties, it was fine then. I even had an ancient VW camper van at one stage and loved sleeping in that. I take off my hat to people who like camping, it's just not my scene. Besides where can I plug in my hairdryer? Guest
And how do you get any privacy? I need time and space to myself. And when I'm on holiday I want to relax and have 'time out', I don't want to work even harder than I do anyway! I've NEVER been camping Can you tell? Linda
Deep breath........here goes....... My name is Linda and.......I like camping!! Yes I do. I have only been a few times over the last couple of years and I think it's really good fun. Strangely I seem to be even more enthusiastic than the children!! Is there something wrong with me?! Mrs Frugal
We used to go camping as a family when I was in my teens and all I can say about it is that my vocabulary for swearing was learned during these trips. Dad did NOT think much to Mum's map reading skills so even before we'd got there (if we ever got there!), the air in the car was blue and Mum and Dad were very red in the face! Dad could never put the tent up without something going wrong so it was just one huge swear-fest! We had all the kit. A three bedroom tent with a kitchen area and living area. Unfortunately Dad bought the portaloo just before we decided that we would NEVER go camping again so the local boy scouts received a donation of our entire camping kit including a brand spanking new portaloo when they had theirs stolen! Best thing Dad ever did ! The tent leaked so we were flooded out on a holiday in Wales when we endured Wales's first ever monsoon. The tent was nearly washed away as the rain swept down the mountains! The majority of that particular holiday was spent in the tent doing crossword puzzles while we watched the rain coming down! We've listened to drunken campers vomiting out of their tent doorways in the middle of the night - the tents don't keep sound out unfortunately! I don't ever want to spend another night under canvas as long as I live!

ali-s
We enjoy camping as well. We have got 4 tents different sizes.... an enormous 9 man tent down to a teeny weeny backpacking tent. We take a mini fridge, hairdryer, straighteners, fan heater and electric kettle OH made an electric hookup cable
mad house
Hi all, we bought a tent last year and have been camping twice since, and loved every miniute. We actually did a trial run last May at Cornwall in a tipi which was excellent! Our attitude now is if the kids love it then so will we. They can run round for hours not hurting anyone or themselves and we can sit an eat....oh and drink!
Guest
Kate that is so reassuring. Camping is everything I thought it was! Ali-S - you obviously do it in style! Hair straighteners on a camping trip I like the sound of a 9-man tent, plenty of space for me while the rest of the family squash up in the other end. Do you take a lap-top? And do camping sites have wire-free internet hotspots?
Guest
The last time we went camping was about 4 years ago in Wales. The dog kept us awake all night because he couldn't get comfy. The time before that was Glastonbury festival. Most of the nights were spent awake, having to fend off drunken/drugged-up bozos from trying to get in our tent. Happy days..... ! Chicken on a mission
When it comes to camping, when I was a child we have done it all. Tent, trailer tent, caravanette and caravan. I have to admit that given we went in all weathers, setting up a tent was the most challenging
Guest
We go camping as a family every year - 5 of us - two grown-ups (errr... ed.) and three children - 9, 11 & 13 yrs. we take our battered old 3rd-hand trailer-tent to France - marvellous! AnnieP
That's not camping surely? Electricity? Loos? laptops? Gah! Whatever next? When I was little we had to sleep out in a cardboard box at the bottom of a lake etc.... actually, I've never camped in my life....
Cookie
We're campers too! We have an 8 man tent for me, OH and the two children, so plenty of room, but we don't have electric hook-up. TBH that is one of the attractions - no phones, no computers, no tv etc. etc. Its so nice to get away from everything completely, and just hang out outside. Love it!! Mind you, I do insist we bring along duvet, sheets, feather pillows and fleece throws to go on our airbed...I can't be doing with sleeping bags! Its fab to spend the evening outside, sitting out under the stars, playing cards with OH and enjoying a bottle of wine or two together.... Am getting excited about our first trip this year as I type Love, Cookie. xx
Hellcat
Superkate - thanks!! I feel sooo much better about going now!! However, thanks for the votes of confidence from all you other camping-types out there. I'll let you know how we get on after Easter. *Hair straighteners*? When camping? mind you, we have an electric hook-up... must add kettle to list of items
Linda
Thank goodness it's not just me!! It's lovely to hear all your views. Cookie, I also make the beds up like that so they are cosy and comfortable. It's great sitting outside the tent with a nice bottle of wine as it gets dark with the lanterns glowing around the pitch. I even don't mind the 3am trips to the loo across the dewy grass! (too much beer/wine?) Count me in if we ever have an Omlet camp-in!
