what else do you do in Spring?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed quite a few of us have got chicken fever and are planning new additions to our flocks and some of us have been having major clear outs. I myself have been Spring cleaning (why do conservatorys have to have so much glass?!) and hopefully will do a bit of a clear out soon and get some bits and bobs on e-bay.

I've also been pondering a bit of redecoration, I felt inspired by Pam's lounge/music room and, as I keep tripping over Ian's guitars, I might hang them on the wall and make a feature of them

But what do other people feel like doing or have been doing now that Spring has almost sprung, keep it clean! ;)

Gardening/allotmenteering! :)

I always have good intentions for autumn/winter, but the weather is often cold and wet so I put things off. Come February, I have a lot to do: digging, manuring, cleaning terracotta plant-pots, sowing seeds, planting garlic - the list is endless!

Luckily we've had some lovely weather on and off so far, so I've managed to get things moving a lot earlier than previous years :)

well..........

I've had a good clear out in both the house and garden - all nice and tidy and sorted now :D:D

I know exactly what's in the shed, loft, garage, cupboards. I do like a good sort and tidy - makes room for all those essesntial forum purchases

I've steam cleaned the bathrooms :D

I'm searching for more chooks - we all seem to go a bit broddy in the spring :roll:

and

I've ordered a lilac cube :oops::oops:

Same as Eyren!

Can't wait for spring when I snuggle in the lounge, fire roaring, pouring over seed catalogues and planting plans!

have placed cardboard over some of the raised beds already to get them warming up for planting.

Tomato and marigold seeds have germinated and I have started saving plastic bottles for mini cloches! I love spring!

My big project for the next few weeks is to clear out all of our wardrobes, and be rather ruthless in doing so...

I have four daughters, and I really need to clear their bedrooms out... we have recently painted DD2 & DD3's common bedroom, so it's reasonably tidy as far as toys are concerned, but the wardrobes look like there's been a 100-year war in them!! Problem with those two is, DD2 is small and very dainty, while DD3, though not overweight in any way, is of a much larger built (even her skull is much bigger than her big sister's), so although there are three years between them, the clothes don't get passed down fast enough.... I end up with clothes that are suitable for both, and some that are too short for DD2 but too long for DD3, though at the same time too large for DD2 and too tight for DD3.... I need to sit down in their room, take everything out of their wardrobes and just keep what fits and what they actually like wearing...

DD1's wardrobe is nice and big, and she doesn't have to share it, (though it's in a much tinier room), so sorting that one shouldn't be such a hard job...

Then I need to get through DD4's wardrobe, as she is just 19 months old, and there are still a lot of baby things lurking at the bottom of her cupboard...

I got through DH and my wardrobe regularly, so that job is also quite quick...

Gosh do I look forward to walking up there at the end of laundry, opening the wardrobes to put things away, and not feel like running for my life!!

Other than that, planting in the garden, and having a new bathroom fitted, are our srping projects...

Oh, and more chooks of course... that goes without saying...

Just been out and bought new clothes for the new season.

Planted out a new herb garden (well if you can call three pots a "garden" ). Have spent loads of money on a new canopy for my hot tub and all that's left is to remind CTB that he promised to completely overhaul the decking this year!!!!

I think spring might be a tad harder going for him than me

I have blitzed the garage. What a job that was, I can actually get inside it now :D

DH did that a while ago with ours and it's already started to get full again, we're storing my sister's sea loo for her boat at the moment and my mum is storing her summer clothes

I love hearing everyone else's plans, gives me some ideas :D

I've sat, marooned on the couch, thinking about doing lots of thingsaround the house, but sadly, I've not got round to doing anything.:oops::oops: I've waited in vain for the nesting instinct to kick in, and it kind of did a couple of weeks ago, where I managed to get my livingroom carpet cleaned, but apart from that, I've not had the energy. If anyone fancies doing some extra spring cleaning, feel free to pm me....:lol::lol:

I chop the bottom bit off and remove the cap - that way the plants get a bit more ventilation but are still protected.

You snuck that one in Pam! Fab - I can't wait to see it! 8)

Chookie - I didn't get much of a nesting instinct with no. 3 - it just all seemed like too much hard work third time around :lol:

We've blitzed the garden sheds so far, Finally persuaded OH to put some shelves up (HOW long have I been waiting for that?) and now I can actually walk into them rather than having to climb in  SO many other areas I need to do though, I don't know where to start next :D

Come the spring I wish that I could stop the world for a couple of weeks and get everything cleaned, sorted, planted and even dusted, but real life doesn't allow :(

I tend to vegetate in the winter, so far we have done quite a good job on the garden but the allotment has been totally ignored for months apart from raids for carrots, parsnips and leeks. As for the house well I don't know where to start at the moment :?

I take a week off work in March these days, just to catch up on the allotment and/or spring cleaning!

Know the feeling! I've been trying out a site called FlyLady - it's a bit American and twee (apologies to any US Omleteers who are reading this!), but it's not a bad way to get organised. Just don't sign up for the email alerts, unless you like getting a dozen messages a day and being pestered when you unsubscribe

I'm so jealous you guys are talking spring already and plants. We have a foot of snow with more predicted for tomorrow. I won't be able to get into the garden until April for clean up and can't put plants out until mid to late May still a chance of frost until then.

In springtime gardening and outside duties call. We tend to spend the winter doing inside stuff - decorating and what-have-you, so we are stir crazy by february. This weekend coming (I know its only Monday....), we will be mainly clearing the ground to make our new permanent hen run. Since we moved in 1 year ago the girls have been penned in with omlet chicken netting, so its now time to give them a proper run. I'm also going bonkers planting way too many seeds and checking them every 5 minutes for signs of effort to grow. I must also clear out the potting shed but don't like the look of all the spidery corners so may get DH to do that chore.

I need to do all of the above. Sooooooo much to do, house is a mess, garden is a disaster (thanks girls), the front of the house is a quagmire and we can't afford paving or a driveway so I'll HAVE to think of a plan for that. And right now I can't summon up the energy. Oh well, putting it off by dawdling on here won't get anything don, off to get the hoover out, God my lifes exciting.

What do I do in Spring?

Why, look forward to Summer (and the lighter evenings :D ) of course

Normally I would be getting out into the garden and planting but because of the impending house move there doesn't seem much point and I have been constantly cleaning and decluttering over the past few months anyway (putting your house on the market does have that effect on you sadly :( ). so really other than keeping up to date in the house, keeping the garden neat as the grass and weeds get growing again I think I'll take the opportunity of using the better weather to go for lots of long walks, soaking up the gentle sunshine and warmer breezes 8)

Sorted the garage out last weekend....took loads of junk to the tip and recycle places. Have been managing to get on top of the garden over the last few weeks and have worked in tons of Manure [makes poo picking from the horse a bit more worth while now I have spread it all over the garden] ..so I am hoping for a good start for the plants in the garden this year and hope that they will appreciate the bit of TLC and feed they have had .

Cleaned out pond pump yesterday as it was clogged up with pond weed and making a funny noise.... The area where I used to have my eglu has been dug over to become my vegetable plot. [i gave up growing vegetables a few years ago as the rabbits around here just ate everything..but I have been inspired again after reading of every ones efforts on here to be more self sufficient.

OH has been trying to make a mesh surround for the area it so that the chickens can start to free range again but without trashing the veg patch.

And of course the same as most of you I would like more chickens later in the spring once I have found out if I really am allergic or not to them..[chest x- ray tomorrow]

Mmmmm what do I do in the spring

Gardening-I dug up the last of the jerusalem artichokes and they had already started sprouting. I have replanted some, put some in the fridge and given some to a neighbour. The veg patch has also had some compost dug in ready for planting. The empty flower bed has been prepared.

Clean the kitchen cupboards

Sort out the sailing kit ready for when its warm enough to venture out on the water. Mr Webmuppet sails all year round but not me.

and get up the gym and do some serious work..........I have to be super fit for my holiday in July ( two weeks intensive dinghy sailing in Minorca........playing with the fast dinghies)

and maybe, just maybe get the garage tidied up.
