Weatherproof Shade for Eglu Run? The Pictures

Recommended Posts

Don't know if this is of interest to anyone?

We've just returned from a local Wyevale Garden Centre and picked up a "Tarpaulin with bungies" sized 2.9m x 1.7m. It has 6 strong eyelets, 4 bungie-type elastic loops to attach to the eyelets and 2 bungies, each 75cm long (including hooks). The cost was £5.99!

We reckon it will be a grand and versatile cover for the eglu run, either placed over a wire support structure, or just attached to the run mesh. Will update when the much-anticipated eglu arrives!

Size might be useful for the cube as well.

Our converter arrived today - one day early. We've just put it together on the run and moved the combination to a fresh piece of lawn.

Tessann asked us to keep folks posted so here are the photos.

Hope this might be helpful to others.

I do much the same with clear shower curtains - they let the light in, but keep the wet and cold wind out in the winter. With the extension on the run, I use two curtains that overlap, plastic eyelets from Millets and bungee cords from B&G... cost under a tenner.

We made an interesting observation when we were sorting out the cover to put it back on:

When the run was uncovered and open to the sky the hens became a bit ?agitated and Kilo chased Miso a couple of times. as soon as we put the cover back on they all settled down and there was no more flightiness.

We also noticed they seemed to be craning their necks to look at the tree branches above them at times.

It seems that the cover provides them with a sense of security
