BeckyBoo
Well, here it is, not a patch on Cinnamons octagonal Chelsea Flower show award winner, but I'm absolutely thrilled with it, altho not as thrilled as my 14 lucky girls who are now, finally, one big flock. They have a ladder up to a little sheltered platform which is full of aubiose for them to kick onto the gilrs underneath.... Log pile for grow you own bugs... and straw bales for playing I'm the king of the castle - they also make ideal seats for chook watching in comfort I had to put a temporary roof of two shower curtains on half of the run as their food was getting soaked and the run got manky within weeks. But as soon as they went in they became one big flock, egg production increased, and they all snuggle up nicely in the cube together at night. Happy hens, happy mum. I can now try and reclaim what used to be grass!
Guest
i think it's lovely and very innovative. The platform is cool, have any of them used it yet?
BeckyBoo
Yup, they're up and down like yo-yos. I keep expecting to find an egg in there but so far they all go back to the cube to lay. Except Dave who laid her egg the first day inbetween the straw bales in the little tunnel bit. Had to send in a small child to reach it! Incidentally, here's some of the stuff we've been selling... Lemon curd, piccallili, eggs, the jars are recycled, the labels are made of recycled paper, the frilly hats are an old pair of eldest daughters shorts held on with "found" pink elasetic bands c/o the postman
Snowy
Wow Mrs B - that is fab!!! I love the tree house platform idea! AND the lovely labels and jar covers, you have been working so hard. BUT don't kid yourself that you will now get your lawn back - they will still manage to make you feel guilty for not letting them out to play! (mine do!) Helen&Lee
I also have a big dog doing toxic wee and digging holes, think I'll need a bigger run to put her in! Mrs Bertie Have you tried the spoonful of tomato sauce in her food? Its supposed to alkaline the wee? It does work I think - better than putting that Green'em stuff from the pet shop down Lovely run, but are you really going resist temptation to have them wandering around?
