FORENSICA
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00100467 I got 3 of these, for each hen one and now I am getting worried if they will fit in. What do you think?
AMO
One hen in each box should be OK for transporting them. Less chance of them getting hurt while travelling if they have less space to move around in. Make sure there are a few air holes and put some newspaper or straw at the bottom to make them comfortable. Do you have far to travel from where you collect the hens to home? Some say it is less stressful if there are more than one hen in a box while travelling.
BeckyBoo
Mmmmmm, sorry but they look a bit small to me. We took a really big box with a bit of straw in and they all snuggled in together. That said we had about 2 hours in the car, if it was a shorter journey they might be OK. Mrs B
FORENSICA
Thanks for that. It is about an hour drive. I thought that if they were separate, then we would not have to hear them fighting (if that should occur) which would probably stress us more then them
BarbaraJ
we had 3 in a box about 2x that size maybe a bit bigger (was a dfs cube display box, dont ask lol) farmer put all 3 in and not a peep fpr an hour.
Hen Watch
We used a photocopier paper box with holes & newspaper in for 1 hen, she was 14 weeks old so not that big. She was Looks similar size. She was ok for 1 hour journey.
mayflower
In a box with air vents------1 inch deep and 5 inches wide, with thick layer of hemcore your hens will not fight because it will be dark in the box. Also the engine noise will probably lull them to sleep. I have heard some say to put some pieces on melon in the box to stop the hens being thirsty. feemcg
I think it would be kinder to put them all in together. Also you don't want the box to be too big or they will slide/move about and get stressed - better if they can huddle securely.
FORENSICA
Thank for all that replies! I will go to Tesco now and will see if they have anything useful. Otherwise will have to pay IKEA another visit and find some bigger box for all the girls to fit in.
feemcg
If you have a Pets At Home type place you can get a cardboard pet carrier.
Egluntyne
If you have a Pets At Home type place you can get a cardboard pet carrier. I got some of these when I picked up my last lot of girls. Very useful....and will last for a while. They were about three quid each as I recall.

CockADoodleDoo
i use a box about 1.5 by 1.7 foot and have had 3 hens in it no problem and if they are nice and snug together the journey is less stressfull and you also dont want them sliding around

jomaxsmith
f you have a Pets At Home type place you can get a cardboard pet carrier. That's good to know, I was wondering how I was going to get my hens to their holiday home before we go off skiing next week! Jo
FORENSICA
Deb, I used to have a big plastic one, but didn't like it. So we got backpack pet carriers, which are so much practical! However, washing a bird's poo from it would be a little problem I reckon
