DollyG
For the last few weeks I have had a mole burrowing into the eglu. it is completely destroying the area around the eglu and also the run. Does anyone have any information on how to get rid of moles. It's driving me (and Lillian, Mavis and Gertrude) crazy.!!
Egluntyne
You can but sonic mole scarers which cause a vibration in the ground which puts them off apparently. Old fashioned sandcastle windmills have a similar effect, and cost less I imagine.
Christian
You can buy Mole bulbs which you plant and it deters them as they hate the smell. http://www.rootrainers.co.uk/gardeners/protection/sorkantimole My parents tried the sandcastle windmills and it drove the mole next door. The next door neighbour then put several windmills in the mole hill and drove the mole back to my parents!
peanut12
you can buy mole traps and deterrents in B&Q too. We have the beggars at our crcket club and even the professional sonar device hasn't worked, so our groundsman whacks them with a spade when they pop their heads up. Rhapsody
Why not put your eglu and run on slabs?

Stevie
Over in France & Belgium-they use explosives to kill Moles, but they're not legal here for some odd reason... Its only a tiny amount on end of a stick which has a battery operated pressure plate fitted and you push them into active runs. Then you wait until the Mole ambles along into it-then bang-its dead. Anyway, here you can try using old fashioned methods like mothballs by inserting them into active runs. You can find their runs by pushing a bamboo can into the soil near where newly excavated soil has been deposited (mole hill). You will feel resistence at first as you push the cane into the soil, but then it will get easier when its into a run.Dig down carefully to expose the tunnel, put mothballs inside and cover it back up so the smell wafts along. They dont like the smell of them and encourages them to move on. Another method is to expose the tunnel like before, soak a cloth in creosote, put it inside and light it.Then carefully cover it up again.Smouldering creosote is a god damn awful smell and the smoke would be atrocious underground in a narrow tunnel.I've used this method myself with great success. You can try poison, but im pretty sure this stuff is only for licenced pest control operatives so would have to hire their services.
Sarah B
We have tried everything - sonic repeller, smoke things, smell things, urine (that was funny), traps, nothing works. The only way is patience and a spade to give them a good wop on the bonce but to be honest they are so quick we havent succeeded here either Our cats put them off though because they sense one coming up and wait for it at the mole hill. Touch wood we havent had a new hill for a couple of months so we think they scoffed all the worms in our garden and have moved on - or were put off by the cats? lozkate
The only way is patience and a spade to give them a good wop on the bonce but to be honest they are so quick we havent succeeded here either They start to move the earth on the surface of the mound when they are around 1-2 inches from the surface so a well directed spade blade forcefully inserted at 45 degrees might catch it on retreat - separating the front from the back so to speak. They can hear you coming so if you have to take 1-2 steps to wield your spade he'll have gone. Hope that helps. For the record I don't have much success down the cricket club either! We saw one hill moving and crept out silently - we got to the hill with spade - it was still moving OH dug in with spade quick as a flash and guess what - no mole
