LJ's Chooks
So things are settling down at two and a half weeks in since we got our additions, but this morning our sussex hybrid Maisy seems to have found her voice. She's been strutting round in the sunshine thinking she's a cockrell... what a racket thank goodness we have quite a bit of space, I hope the neighbours dont start!! Is it the sunshine, or is she just a bit gobby?? I dont think she's ready to lay yet???

harriet
my girls are so loud! they wake me up at about six thirty in the morning and they're not afraid of anouncing when theyv laid!
chickencam
My Light Sussex goes off on one at the slightest thing, even me walking past the run sometimes. She doesn't like the cats stalking along the side of the run and she makes a row when she has laid.
jomaxsmith
My Maran Cuivre has just started crowing after she's laid an egg. Previously she only raised the alarm at cats. She is _so_ loud - luckily at the moment she's laying late morning but if she starts that noise at 5am in the summer I might have to start closing the Eglu door at night! Egluntyne
If she is Bok Bokking maybe there is something in the garden like a magpie or a cat.....or even a fox that is causing her to shout.
Mrs Webmuppet
One of mine makes a racket if something has gone wrong in the run or coop- if the perch has fallen down or the food container has been knocked over...........you go running out wondering what on earth has happened and then she tries to point you in the right direction. This morning the top perch had fallen down in the coop, she made a racket, I went out there and she went into the coop and waited until I had put it back up. Clever chook or what
Steph101
Lulu, our pepperpot, makes a noise like a cockerel when she's laid
meezers
Mine are the opposite , they are really quiet chooks, whick is good I suppose as we have a couple of neighbours; BUT I would like to lie in bed on the weekend and listen to their clucking - our bedroom is right beside the run and I have the window open but I never hear a peep The only time they get a bit vocal is when they see me coming out the kitchen door , and then Lottie makes more noise than the rest of them put together
dogs and chickens
Lulu, our pepperpot, makes a noise like a cockerel when she's laid Glad I'm not the only one with chooks like this! My brown leghorns and the cream legbars do this as well - Bless em Michelle
superjules
Mine come out of the henhouse having laid, all casual and nonchalant, then go potter about a bit, have some food, then suddenly they freeze, have one of those "Did I leave the gas on?" looks, and start making the biggest racket! My Wyandotte will start at anything though. She went off on one the other day because the kids' pop-up tunnel thing was rolling around the grass in the wind. And when she starts she sets the rest off.
druids57
Mine seem to be quiet except when something happens in the garden - went out earlier to see what the noise was for to see a huge ginger tom cat laying outside the run they were giving him a verbal "what for". The pull of the chickens must be great for him as we have three cats who usually chase off any passing stranger.
Ziggy
Mine make a royal racket when they see the cats, and took a particular dislike to magpie that used to hang around... There have been many times when I rushed outside thinking Mr Fox was hanging around the run again, just to find one of our cats looking at them in a perplexed way... the neighbours must wonder what is going on in the garden, regularly hearing me shout in an exasperated tone 'Oh for goodness sake stop this racket, it's just the cat!!!!' They're not scared of the cats though, I can see that when they free range... I think it's just their way of being bossy and putting the cats back in their own place (kind of 'How dare you stare at us while we go around our daily business, you furry thing' comment). LJ's Chooks
Sounds like I'm not alone... OH went to collect the eggs yesterday and yep there were 3! one of our new girls has laid a tiny little egg... but which one!!! I think it may be our sussex as it is a normal egg colour but has a few chocolate spots on it... so perhaps it's our maran hybrid that hasn't got it's colour sorted yet? Oh I don't know, but a dear little egg, perhaps that's why maisy the sussex had something to say the day before. No other signs though still no rubber glove on her head unlike our new white nova, but it can't be her cos she should lay white ones??? Oh the mystery of keeping chooks!
