kronkie
Hi My girls arrived on wednesday and its started raining on them which they dont seem worried about but I dont know what to do about their layer pellets which must be getting damp. Will the pellets be ok or will I have to replace them whenever it gets wet outside? Kronkie
Christian
Welcome to the forum! Do you have an eglu? If you do the pellets should stay dry in the grub feeder. If not and they are getting wet, then they should be replaced as they turn mouldy very quickly. All the best
kronkie
Yes I do have an Eglu and thanks for the advice about them getting mouldy. Being as new as I am to keeping chickens I shall have more concerns in the future but that has got the first problem sorted. Thanks

BarbaraJ
I haven't got an eglu myself but i thought the run came with a cover, couldn't that go over the grub?
kronkie
Yes Barbara it has a cover but I was concerned if the rain got into it what would happen, as I said I am new and I think if 1 of the girls looked at me funny I will be panicing for the next few weeks. Just thinking about letting them free range gives me goose bumps!

Stevie
Welcome Kronkie! The pellets should remain dry inside the peanut feeder cos of its design plus keep it under the cover Omlet supply with the Eglu for good measure.I give it a good shake to mix it all up when replenishing so it dont get a chance to go stale. Gamebird
Welcome to the forum Kronkie. I'm new too - just 3 weeks in. My girls have layers mash (same as pellets but much finer) and I give it to them slightly damp so their powdery supplements stick to the mash. The girls eat it so quickly that it nevers gets a chance to get mouldy This forum is full of good, practical advice from experienced chicken owners so you're in the right place for help. Good luck
