chocchick
Has anyone got recommendations for a foodbin? I/we have a mice issue and I think they can squeeze under the lid of my current galvannised food bin, so need something that closes tightly so they don't jump out at me. If you want to read the mouse story, screams and all http://sarah.blog.urbanchicken.org.uk/index.php?op=ViewArticle&articleId=194&blogId=
Egluntyne
I thought I heard a scream Sarah! I weigh the lids of my bins down with bricks. So far so good.

Laura & CTB
Screaming like a girl eh Sarah! (I save that for spiders)
chocchick
The lid is sloped and bigger than the bin so weighing it down may not work. They are determined, and this is now their home apparently. I could not believe when released they ran straight to the shed for safety. Egluntyne
How about luggage cords?
TAJ
Domestic fowl trust do one that holds a full 20kg sack of food where the lid is attached permanently by a metal strap - lid fits very tightly. Alternative find a friendly cat to scare the mice off. Tracy
Ain't Nobody Here
Could you glue something round the inside edge of the lid? Some foam or something? (Or would they just eat through it .)
chocchick
I don't know, they chew through the plastic bags I line the bin with as an extra layer This is like my bin, there is a gap at the sides, or they are sneaking in when I open it Did you mean the mini ones with fixes lid, or the £70 one
Ain't Nobody Here
Your bin looks very like mine. I've had no problems with mice . Don't know what to suggest .
chocchick
Ended up spending £12 at B&Q on a plastic one with a lid with clips, and putting gaffer tape over the holes. Seems to seal a lot better, and put it outside in the chicken pen for ease of access. Hopefully the mice will find a new home when the food source dries up, or they may face forced relocation. Noodle
Get a couple of cats - they do a great job
chocchick
Interesting, there are 2 cats that take an interest in the chickens. We caught them one at each end of the pen sat down, just watching. They seem more interested in the chickens. The chickens on the other hand ran like lightning after the mouse when it finally ran in the right direction (AWAY from me).
