Abbey Road Girl
I feel like I've spent more time in my back garden in the last ten days than I have in the last ten years! We have already been warned by meezers about trying to eat sandwiches and read library books whilst the girls are free ranging. My garden has been neglected, but somehow reclaiming it as a garden when it's really more of a natural hen habitat anyway seems a waste of time. So what work is compatible with Hen Watch? I plug my iron in right next to the back door, so I have been thinking about doing my ironing whilst on duty. Poo is the obvious danger, but I do have a roll of Omlet netting... Should I just abandon the work ethic and sit for hours (like I did this afternoon--very relaxing ) or do Omleteers have any suggestions. meezers
you are trying to hard ! housework has definitely taken a backseat since my chooks arrived, the only thing that gets done for sure is the poo picking and coop cleaning ! if we have heavy rain and the chooks aren't let out to free range, I might get some hoovering done, washing is a bit hit and miss, the machine is near the back door, so I tend to load it , then just pop out to talk to the girls for a few mins I sometimes remember to unload it when it's finished, I rarely remember what it was I was going to do before talking to the girls ! As for gardening, what's the point ? the chooks do it for me, ok, so maybe they can't distinguish between a weed and prize seedling, but I stick an upturned tub over anything I don't want eaten and the rest takes it's chances , if it gets eaten then that's less to keep tidy ! Ms Tilytinkle
Hellooooo Sue, Well i have a few, infact . . Absolutely lots of suggestions: 1) Fold clothes immediately as soon as they come off the washing line, then deliver to subsequent owners., or better still leave their ironing on the rightful owners of the ironing beds', to put away themselves!! 2) Break iron. 3) bribe children, husband, neighbour, cleaner - anyone to do all of the housework 3) make a delicious cake with all lovely eggs 4) best watch chooks whilst cake is baking 5) pop kettle on & brew coffee or tea 6) cut nice slice of cake, pour coffe - recline of sun lounger watching chooks & enjoy! .. life's far too transient 7) then as the sun goes down . you'll be full of energy, remorse, guilt & merging responsibilities when you can feel like taking the world on & achieving everything . .roast dinner, beds changed etc etc all in the last 10 minutes before family arrive home Ms Tillywouldnevernevertimewastewatchingherchooks PS some chocolate necessary too. AJuff
I wouldn't advise trying to write report whilst hen watching!!! They took me weeks and weeks last year and they're looming on the horizon already.
Chicken Licken
I'm with you Mrs Tily - my best moments are on the allotment with all the girls helping me - dog sunbathing and chickens dibbling - who wants carrots anyway!!

meezers
Brilliant photo ! So that's the typing sorted, now, if we can only train them to cook and wash up !
Hen Watch
I feel like I've spent more time in my back garden in the last ten days than I have in the last ten years! ...............................Should I just abandon the work ethic and sit for hours (like I did this afternoon--very relaxing ) or do Omleteers have any suggestions. Now then..... Morning routine is coffee and read magazines whilst in garden with the chooks. Followed by washing up at kitchen sink (whilst looking out at the chooks), followed by ironing board set up next to the patio door (whilst watching chooks). Bit of a pattern forming here me thinks...... Oh yes, and put the chooks to bed and spend all evening online ....... on some forum called....now what is it???? .....scrambled egg??? ....... oh yes Omlet.....That's the one. Abbey Road Girl
I am so gobsmacked! Hencouragement to be slothful and bake cakes. Hencouragement to eat cake. (Could there possibly be any connection between my getting my Cube and hens and buying self-rising flour in the same week?) And the brilliant suggestion to let my chooks take over my computer along with a schematic for how to do it! Oh you are seductive!
Mutrix Farmers
Henwatch, your day sounds exactly like mine except I had to do some baking too (while watching the girls out of the kitchen window). The girls loved the biscuits but didn't seem keen on sponge cake!!
