Poor dear Lily

Recommended Posts

My lovely White Star Lily, who has been off for days now,has really taken a turn for the worse this afternoon.

She is just laying down in the pen, nibbling at bits of food, but can't seem to get up at all.

So I have removed her from the pen & tucked her up in a cosy Aubiose & Straw filled box, covered in a towel for warmth. I guess I am expecting the inevitable to happen

She is not yet 2 & has always been full of beans until this week, laying wonderful & huge bright white eggs.

I don't know what has gone wrong & I am really sad about her being so obviously poorly. She hasn't even got it in her to beak the new girls, which is most unlike Lily :lol:

Well, shes still with us :)

She seems unable to stand any longer & also is not eating or drinking.

I do feel so helpless, & I just know the inevitable will happen, & sort of wish it would happen soon so shes not suffering.

Her lovely red comb which was always so big & sticky uppy is all flopped over & tinged blue too

Her poos are just liqued, but there is no sign of any worms which is one good thing. I did worm them all a couple of weeks ago after finding a big wriggler in the poo tray, but haven't seen any since so I don't think its that :?

Well :?

She has perked up a little.

She has had lots of water with a big dose of Avipro in it. Haven't seen her eat yet though.

Her head is up & she seems more alert, but she still cannot stand very well.

So I have dosed her with Flubenvetted water in a syringe as an extra precaution too & I think I shall set up the Hospital Wing spare Eglu for her a bit later.

Terrible job thats going to be - the run bits are all over the garden as I have found many other uses for them in the 2 years its been since I had to have an Eglu with a run :lol:

Sorry to hear this. However you must make sure you take her welfare into account and if she gets really bad, then you know what I mean.

At least she seems to be getting better though. I'm still not entirely sure if Starlet is ok at the minute though...

Hens do make you worry don't they!

She is still with us this morning, but now won't or can't move at all, & has her eyes shut most of the time.

I think her time is coming & I am happy to leave her in her quiet box where she seems happy & at peace.

Its too late for antibiotics - she went downhill so quickly & I have seen enough sick hens to know that she was beyond help when I first posted.

If she had them she would probably perk up but get sick quickly again once the dose stopped. I am happy to let nature take its course & just make sure she is warm, quiet & comfortable. :?
