Ain't Nobody Here
After battling with a gate made of expanding trellis which eventually gave up the ghost, we toyed with getting a wrought iron gate put in. Got a vague quote for £340 so had a look in B&Q and came up with this (I had to add the hinges). Now we just swing it open and shut and it stays upright without any fixings. Hopefully the girls won't work out that if they jump onto it, there's a whole new world out there (well, a boring driveway with no grass) . Fur 'n' Feathers
Nice one ANH Looks great One thought... Do you think you might ever find them roosting from the gate like bats
redhotchick
Another fabulously practical idea ANH! My girls do seem to respect their boundaries. I was watching them from the window tonight and they were on "their" side of the (fairly flimsy) netting that I have erected. It wasn't until I went out with their supper and Dolce strolled through to meet me! that I realised that there was a big hole in it.

Helly Welly
It looks great but mine would be up on there straight away We made compost bins out of pallets and they are forever up on there. Actually, they are forever in there as weel, eating the mouldy veg that's covered in poop :vom:

Lydia
We installed a gate just like that..........it worked for about a week or so until Ping realised it was just one more hurdle to be overcome to get in the back door Now we often leave it swinging open and they all think it's great fun to have a ride
Ain't Nobody Here
I do still have a bit of expanding trellis which could be added if they do work it out! We've left the gate open before and they've never attempted to get out so fingers crossed .
chocchick
The two chickens in the picture look very determined, so I can see why you have gone for a sturdy fence Looks good.

Ain't Nobody Here
Well, you were all right . There was no attempt to jump down to the other side and no signs of her doing it again since but perhaps I'll need to get the trellis out too . cluckbok
Oh that's so funny, sorry I laughing at your expense. They so naughty eh! That's what I love about chickens. Little monkeys. Ours have just been eating our mint!! I do love the gate though. Yeah I would put something else near it/on it. Mind you, ours have gone on our driveway and then wandered back on to the grass because there's nothing interesting to peck at on the drive. We've got our garage and driveway in our garden with a double gate 5Ft high and only Matilda has been on it so far. That was only because OH was talking to the neighbour and she wanted to see what was going on. He lifted her off and she just wandered back into the garden. We've since put an arbour in and some trellis to close it off a bit. You can see the top of the arbour on the webcam, it looks like we've got a boat in our garden!!! P.S. Are you going to the Jimmy's farm meet on 5th July? We going, should be good! It's not far from you.

AJuff
I am astonished your girls aren't up and over your gate and the trellis. I have spent the afternoon trying to hen proof a 6ft fence. Even with wings clipped they have no problem!! Seems like you have chooks that respect your boundries.
