Egg box labels

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of making some labels for the egg boxes which I would like to give away as presents to friends.

Does anybody have a cool idea what I should write on it or have some fun picture? Would be greatly appreciated and the name of the designer will get a honorary place on the box :D

this is what we do, but we'll have to add Bea's name now she's started laying again :D You could have a border of small b&w chickens, I'll try and find one on google for you

Hi Poet

Really like your little chook on the pic of the labels that you've made. Where did you get it from if you don't mind me asking? I'm also after some little hen stickers to put on cards if anybody out there knows where I can get some from?

This is the label we've designed, using a photo of the back of our house & house name. We felt "ethical" conveyed more of the spirit of our hens lives than "free-range" or "organic" and wouldn't fall foul of legislation.

We're thinking of sticky labels but have been sticking them on. Started selling this week!! :)

quite right if you're selling them. Lovely label by the way, does it have the chickens on too?

we just give ours away to friends and relatives so we're not too bothered about semantics

No, we don't have the chooks names though you have us thinking now  The label seems to have been evolving over the past 2 weeks and we're sure it won't stop here :!:

We give the boxes of 4 to friends as gifts/"thankyou"s, but we're getting 3 eggs a day at present & only one of us can eat eggs (Feathers has always had a ghastly intolerance  ), so we're getting plenty spare.

The response from those who've had them is extremely positive. They're quite happy to pay £1 for 6 small-medium eggs. It helps with the cost of the feed as we buy organic layers pellets.

we kind of barter or get payment in kind for our eggs. My mum's neighbour washed my dad's car today and took her to the hospital because I'm ill and couldn't, so we'll give him some eggs. DH's friends give him stuff off their allotments so they get eggs and poo sometimes. etc etc.

everyone who has had them can't believe the difference in taste and is alwaya dropping hints for more! That's why we came up with the labels, just to make their eggsperience a little more special

Yep, I so far gave some eggs to my friends. One of them said that he never ate an egg from a named hen  I did not think about it that way really :D

We are getting 3 eggs almost every day too, but I was thinking of selling them for 20p each egg (still much cheaper then eggs from shop I reckon). Hope it is not too much :?

I am struggling to take a clear picture (and I should really be in bed!) but this is what mine look like ... a pic of one of my hens, and the legend reads 'Eggs from Happy Garden Hens' - avoiding use of 'organic' or 'freerange'. Then underneath the picture, it says "Brunnhilde, Sieglinde, Sadie and Yolko thank you for not buying battery eggs".

I give mine away, not organised enough to sell them and I don't have a regular supply as if I'm baking I use loads. I love being able to give them to friends, though and if anyone has a birthday then they get eggs laid on the day!

Oops sorry, I've tried to reduce this to thumbnail size and it's still too big! Definitely time I went to bed.

sorry lisa, DH got it from the clipart software on our computer. I bet you'd find some good ones on google though. Try googling clipart chicken maybe?

What a brilliant idea. We sell our hen's eggs to pay for there organic pellets. So having a special label would be a great idea. I have no idea how to do this but I will have to try and work it out.... postcard size you say, now I have a new job to do, but this will be so much more fun than the dusting  !

I make my own labels by using left over card from packaging. I cut it to size, hole punch the corner so that it can be threaded with ribbon and tied round the box. I also punch out a chicken into the card (I'm into card making and have a chicken cutter). The piece that gets cut out is used on the back of my cards as my signature. I then write a message in gold or silver pen i.e. ' From the Happy Hens' and then list their names.

It costs nothing, as everything I use comes from packaging.

Here's ours for what it's worth - the girls drew the pictures (the box at the bottom has the word "bantam" handwritten on as that's what they were)

Inside is a big long spiel....

Green Bullet Eggs are just that: Green because they’re free-range and layed by happy hens, and Bullet because they really hit the spot. SO if you want eggs that taste just like wot they oughta, how you remember eggs tasting you’ve come to the right place. Did you know, for example, than free-range eggs have been found to contain up to 50% LESS cholesterol that eggs from barn reared or caged hens? So not only can you feel good knowing that your eggs have been layed by happy hens, you can feel even better knowing that they’re good for you too!

Just so’s you know, if you come across a big white egg it’s probably been layed by Bertie, our Exchequer Leghorn, a rarity as she hardly ever lays, a small white one will be from Matilda our Light Sussex Bantam, small cream ones come from Dave our funky Poland. Any large dark brown ones are from Lulu our Maran, double yolkers are care of Rainbow, our resident Black Rock, after that it’s anyone’s guess who laid what!

So enjoy natures most versatile, health food, go on Bite the Green Bullet!!

And I will now add the very good - Thank-you for not buying battery eggs
