lisaroo2
Do you do this?! I do. I can't help it. When I'm in the garden I have a right little natter with my ladies. I tell them whats happening during the day, when they'll get their tea, etc, etc. A proper 'Shirley Valentine' excepet she talked to a microwave and she didn't have neighbours that heard her...!! ...my neighbours have caught me chatting to the girls and they think its so funny! I suppose it is really. Trouble is we only moved in three months ago so we're still trying to 'make a good impression'. My neighbour is lovely and we had a laugh at my 'chook conversations'. She reckons its quite sweet really! I got my own back when I relayed a conversation that she'd had with her cat. At least I don't use language like that to my girls! (her turn to go red). So come on, 'fess up, who has a little natter with em now and again and what do you natter about??
Egluntyne
I do burble away to them...but not about anything in particular.
Abbey Road Girl
If Prince Charles talks to his plants, what do the rest of us have to worry about? I've found that my neighbours are as besotted (almost) by my hens as I am. Never saw the 'hood so united in a positive way! We are talking a "social good"! Snowy
I talk to mine. And to the dog, and to the fish in the pond, and to my veggies growing ... well the menfolk don't listen to me, so ...
Phosphorus
Yep my neighbour has told my DH that he has heard me talking away to the chickens in the morning. Frightened him the other day though - he didn't realise that DH was off work that morning and was out in their run with me - he thought one of the chickens was talking back
Cooks
yes, I talk to the girls, ofcourrrrrrse I do, they talk to me! I talk to the fish and you dont want to hear me with my dogs!
Abbey Road Girl
Excellent point, Lou--they talk to us first! They squark, they croon, they trumpet, they announce eggs have been laid and they brag about running off with a length of spaghetti! By contrast, we are quite soft-spoken. MadMitch
I talk to mine all the time, I ask them what they've been up to and what they would like for a treat, (they always say porridge). I just chat to them in general, but I also do the same with my cats. So does OH.
Hen Watch
I do hope I'm not the only one, but I talk to my chooks like they are babies I'm sure the neighbours must have heard me saying out loud"who has laid an eggy-peggy for Mummy then???" ......... lisaroo2
Oh nooooooooo Katy! I have to draw the line at the baby talk! But then I've never been a big fan of it. I think I'm not the only one they talk to, they're chatting to Phil the Pheasant at the mo...

Mutrix Farmers
I talk to the girls more than OH does. I actually ask them questions - like they are going to answer me I'm convinced they recognise tone of voice too, when Charlotte jumps on the run for the umpeenth time just for attention, I talk to her crossly and she doesn't do it again. And they know their own names! The men in white coats are at the door, but I've told the girls not to tell them where I am!
emily95
I always talk to ours and my dad talks to them like they are his best friends. He says they always talk back and he says he can tell when they are asking for grapes or not Its all very funny Emzie xxx
Ain't Nobody Here
I always say "hello girlies" in a loud voice when I go into the garden, tick them off if they poo on the patio and scold them when they scratch earth/stones etc onto the freshly swept path . Pinkybijou
Ha ha, so glad I'm not the only one! I ALWAYS thank them for their eggs, and tell them how clever they are. Then when I eat their eggs I go back and report how delicious they were too. When my children and hubby are out and I have the garden to myself I get my chooks out and sit with them on my lap feeding them mealworms and telling them how beautiful they are. A few months ago I had never even seen a chicken up close and now look at me!
Olly
I go up the garden every morning and say 'Hello, ladies' but I'm afraid most of my conversation is scolding - 'leave poor Siggy alone, Yolko, she's done nothing to deserve that' or 'WILL you get off the potato patch at once, please' .... I've always said that the only reason I keep a cat is so I don't talk to myself. I find him a very good companion, as he rarely answers back or interrupts. chickencam
I talk to all my girls, cats, chickens, and even my children sometimes My OH also talks to them, usually questioning them on who hasn't laid that day etc. I am an only child therefore I talk to myself more than I should so pets make me look more sane Having said that my son talks to himself a lot and he is one of 3. My OH complains that when we go swimming, DS sings and talks in the shower and whilst getting changed
