Oh Clare, I've only just seen this. I'm so sorry about poor Sadie. We had to make the same decision with Clarry and it's heartbreaking but you know when you've reached the point where nothing can help her and it is the most loving thing you can do even though it's painful for you. She's peaceful now with her friends in the big chicken Eglu in the sky.

I've just heard from the vet that they will have to come out to me to do it - current restrictions and all that. I'm waiting to hear when they can come.

I misread the post Clare, I thought you'd been to the vet already - sorry about that. It's better that they come to you as it will mean that she's not stressed at all and will be comfortable in familiar surroundings. Thinking of you xxx

It's a sad day for you Claret. I'm pleased you have been able to enjoy the last week with Sadie, even knowing that this day would come one day soon.

I'm so sorry

Well, she had a lovely day in the sun, pottering around the flowers. The vet came this evening and quietly dispatched her while she lay in my arms and we all stroked her and talked to her. I felt her flutter away to be a chicken angel and then she was at peace.

 

We all shed tears while Phil helped to bury her with her friends - the original first chickens have now all gone and the three musketeers are all together again.

 

We secured the grave again and decorated with with the loveliest flowers from the garden.

 

Phil took some last photos this afternoon and I will post them when I get a moment.

Oh Claret, while its so sad for you to lose Sadie, I hope my chooks (and dogs) will have an ending like that when the time comes.

Very late with this I'm afraid, but just wanted to add my symathies, so hard to let her go, but what a wonderful life she's had and what a peaceful, dignified end. She was a very lucky lady .

Thank you all. I have made a bunch of her feathers with some ribbon, as I did with the others, and they remind me so much of her.

 

She used to make me laugh the way that she would jump up on my back when I was bending over to garden.
