The Dogmother
Ooops, I nearly forgot! I examined Sadie this lunchtime and her tummy seems to have stabilised and isn't getting any fuller. She's acting normally for an old matron of her age and is pottering around the garden. So she's OK for the near future at least. Phew! The Dogmother
Thanks guys. I don't think that the problem will go away; she has some sort of cancer that will kill her eventually. I just want to make sure that her last days are comfortable and as enjoyable as possible; I am keeping a close weather eye on her and will make sure that she doesn't suffer at all. I will tell her that you're all rooting for her.
The Dogmother
Well, the inevitable has happened and Sadie's tummy has filled up again and it won't be long before she starts to suffer. I have had an email chat with Clive (the vet) and he agrees that to drain her again will only delay the inevitable and that it's better to put her to sleep now while she is relatively 'happy' than to let her get stressed and even more poorly. Keeping her alive for much longer would be for purely selfish reasons - we've had longer with her than we though we would, so that has been a bonus. I am popping in to the vets tomorrow to drop off some used syringes, so will get an appointment for as soon as they have a slot.

Ain't Nobody Here
So sorry to hear that . You're right though, better to let her go before her life gets miserable.
The Dogmother
Thanks Guys - I was so pleased that she rallied and remained stable for so long. I was hoping that we'd beaten it, but thinking logically, the main problem - almost certainly cancer of some sort - won't have gone away, we could only treat the symptoms.
