mooncup . no more tampons and pads!

Recommended Posts

Well I've finally taken the plunge and ordered one! Crunch time came when Dan went rummaging in my bag for sweets and popped up again in front of the builders clutching 2 super plus lilets "What are these Mummy?"

Well I had to be honest "plugs" I answered, while the poor builders sprayed their tea all over my new porch. :?

Well just to add to all the praise here, I have had mine for a couple of months and it's just simply the best buy ever... I have tried the mooncup and the sea sponges both, and both are absolutlely perfect and I would never go back to disposable products. I just regret not knowing about these years and years ago...

I have a little while before I need to think about these, but with four daughters in the house it does make me think... does anyone know when these are suitable from ? I don't remember reading any info about young girls just starting out... though to be honest I haven't read the whole of this post either, it is a little on the long side...

:D Same here! Thanks to the many people who have posted on this topic, isn't it amazing the things you learn on a chicken forum?

I only bought mine in time for the last couple of days, so next month will be the real test.

But, as someone else said, it feels liberating, I'm very impressed.

Thanks everyone, I'm off to spread the word. :D

I'm a total convert now, I love it. I ended up cutting the stem right off as it wasn't any use anyway. By the end of my period I was comfortable with taking it in and out. Also throughout my whole period I didn't stain my undies at all. I'm quite light and at the end I usually stop and start quite a bit so I have to use panty liners. The mooncup was brilliant as I just left it in all day without a worry (the stopping and starting is more spotting than bleeding).

I hope that I never have to use the disposable products again because I think it was the lighter days when they were causing me the most trouble. Also, I begrudge the money it costs for a disposable pad if it isn't "used". However, with the washable products, it isn't a big deal if they are not actually needed after all.

I have to agree with you there Caz. People think I'm lucky with my light, short periods but its those that catch you out. No I don't bleed copiously for a week. But I find tampons uncomfortable because I'm too dry and I can't bear to keep a towel for longer than a few hours because even though it looks clean I think it's smelly - oh and uncomfortable.

I feel very liberated now.

ditto - it's the 'has it finished or not' days, which as I get older I find more and more unpredictable! Like you I found I was constantly changing - thinking I didn't need to bother and then getting caught out - it's sooo much easier with a mooncup!

Sometimes the beginning starts half-hearted as well, or when I've been sure I'm due but don't want to be caught out when going out for the day, washable products score again. I don't know if it is that I'm not so bothered about whether or not I'm starting that it also has sometimes reduced the pain just before I'm due!

have a look at the FAQ on the mooncup site, or email them.

OK girls, second day of trying my first mooncup  It is much easier to insert it then I anticipated. Also it is great that I don't have to swap it as often as tampons and overall it feels like a cleaner option.:D

Anyway, I think that I can constantly feel it inside, something like when you have a very soaked up tampon inside which slid a bit down. Does anybody have the same experience? Maybe I am just concentrating on it too much or should it go even higher? Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated

Well mine arrived Tuesday morning, and I was able to try it straight away. I also ended up cutting the stalk off almost completely as a couple of times I could 'feel' it. But it's much easier to remove by grabbing the base of the cup and squeezing it slightly to break the seal. I can't feel it at all now and it really is easy to use (If you've ever used a diaphragm, it's much easier to use than that!)

Excellent! I'm delighted with it!

I agree wholeheartedly! I have memories of trying to fold the darn thing up, and it pinging across the bathroom!

Forensica, I agree with the others - try it a bit higher up. The instructions say that it sits lower than a tampon, but I didn't understand that, as far as I'm concerned it goes in about the same place.

I am totally converted, I just wish I'd discovered this years ago.
