New cube arrived early! UPDATED - PICS OF PLASTIC BARS ADDED

Recommended Posts

Yes it was waiting on the doorstep when I got home yesterday.

Nice PURPLE cube

I might get it put up this weekend BUT there isn't anywhere to put it until Kevin the handyman comes and makes a hole and step into the run. At the moment it's in boxes on the summerhouse verandah but it can't stay there as we are having a party next Saturday.

I opened a couple of the boxes, and extracted the PLASTIC ROOSTING BARS. Very handy to show the people on Sundays hen party. Perhaps they should send a set to all hen party hosts....

Awww Jules, you knew mine had the plastic roosting bars.

I'll try and take a picture later, or maybe now. I'm not going to use them till tomorrow - I like a nice week of dirty cube to show my hen party attendees - gives them a better idea of the mess and the smell I think.

Actually I was surprised they weren't solid plastic - I kinda guessed they would be like the ladder, but they aren't

Congratulations on your shiny new set of roosting bars! 8)

They look great!

I also assumed that they were solid plastic from the pictures in the shop... I guess they are like that because of the mould? :?

Not being solid underneath, will make it sligthly harder to clean with a cloth. Although they shouldn't get too dirty and looking at them, they look solid enough to withstand a blast from a pressure washer!

Anyway, does anyone know if the Mk2 Eglu roosting bars are the same?

Also being hollow, how solid are they with the weight of a heavy breed chicken roosting on them? (I hope they don't bend...)

The mark 2 bars are the same construction Offspring, just a different shape and size. I am delighted with mine and the poos just seem to slide off. I had a beginners hen party on Saturday and they were doing the usual bucket-wash of the eglu - they all remarked on how easy they were to clean.

They are very robust - reckon I'd be able to stand on them between two bricks and they wouldn't break... not going to try it though

I am delighted. 8)

How did you hear about them Clare, was it your contacts with the mothership?:wink:

4 chickens, including 2 heavy breeds, were roosting on them last night and they didn't snap. They are very solid 8)

Due to the garden redesign we have put the original run back on the Eglu and binned the one OH made. So today I ordered an orange plastic refresher kit 8) and a glug (gave other peanut to Martin). I cannot wait for them to arrive  Simple things and all that :lol:

They look a bit flimpsy for me. I think hens might have a little bit of a struggle to hold onto them as they can't wrap their toes completely around them.

Yes I agree, why didn't they make them rounded and "all the way round" if you get my drift? Like the wooden ones but plastic. I find anything to do with chickens that has any edges at all is a pain to clean.
