Lapinou
Just off to fence off the vulnerable parts of the garden, then they're out for a couple of hours. Children are desperately excited. I'm apprehensive that we'll be able to get them back in again - will crack open a tin of sweet corn for bribes I expect Can't believe we've had them five days already! chucknette
Hi Lapinou You will be able to get them back in with a treat. Have you got a special bowl that they will associate with a treat? When they see this bowl in the future even if its got nothing in it they will be putty in your hands. They will love being out Have a good day! Peachy77
Good Luck! Our girls arrived the same day. We let them out last night for about 10 minutes into the pen. Its a waist height fence about 4m x 4m they went back in straight away. Cant wait to let them out again. Let us know how you go.

Lapinou
We haven't got a treats bowl yet - we need to get one sorted as I've read about those before. They are *loving* it. The fencing looks nice and neat, so I'm really pleased with that - and we've worked out an easy way to make a 'gate' at one end so we can get to the bits we don't want the chooks getting to. Here they are just making their way out: Millie's the only one who'll let us stroke her so easily - we think she's close to laying as she's doing that flattening thing everyone talks about: Getting used to the children: And just wanted to post these two photos - this is what I did all on my own yesterday, with some 'help' from the children (it's the gravel boards and woodchip). The chickens love the woodchip, especially when we put a few currants in for them to scratch for and 'discover' : And here is DH cleaning it out for the first time - so, so easy! The children all got chairs to watch him from Just wanted to post it cos it looks so funny - DD2 looks like she's saying 'you missed a bit!'. Lapinou
DD2 is having a paddy because we put the chickens away so we could all go upstairs to do baths etc. "I *want* to play with the chickens!!!" she's yelling. All six girls have had a lovely, full, long day playing outside together

Lapinou
Your chooks look real tame for their first freerange session and are activly staying close to your children! We've made sure we've held each one at least once a day and got the children up close to stroke them each time - we are so keen that both the children and the chickens are comfortable with eachother - seems to be paying off
