rogdickinson
I've got a Miss Pepperpot (Audry) & a Gingernut Ranger (Sibyl). They're happy and laying well, but I'd love to add another (or two). I'd prefer it if she was white, a good layer and had a friendly temperament, ie one that doesn't mind being handled. Any suggestions? Peachy77
Hi. We have a pepperpot and a ranger from omlett. the same day they arrived we picked up an amber star / silvernic. She is pure white. The colours vary from pure white to white with brown speckles. We wanted a white bird so the children could tell them all apart. This hybrid is what was reccommended to us a few chicken breeders. Hope this helps.
Egluntyne
If you are thinking introducing new chickens to an established pair, it will be worth reading **This article** so that you can plan ahead. It will be easier to introduce two. A single hen is likely to be ganged up on.
Purplemaniacs
We added two to our original omlet pair as we were advised not to add a single one.
Christian
I agree with the others, definitely add 2 (or more ) A light sussex is lovely and mine is very docile
alih
the ambers are lovely and sweet natured - here's mine and the light sussex are whiter and pretty too - you could get one of each and have the full colour spectrum!
rogdickinson
Thanks for all your advice, it's very much appreciated. It seems that introducing 2 will be the best idea and suitable preparation and time! Of course introducing a fourth chicken means that I need more advice on what to get. I'm sold on the idea of the amber star, any suggestions for the fourth?? (The existing 2 are P'pot & Ging Ranger) Thanks to you all, Rog
NClaire
I've just got a bluebelle and a silver link/amber star and they look lovely with my goldline (same as the gingernut).
jomaxsmith
My Coral (which has leghorn in its ancestry) is gorgeous and lays large pale pink eggs. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=485093&l=ffcf7&id=663092293 I was advised that it is useful to have a white hen because then you can always see where the flock is! Chickens@61
we have a 'merrydale sweetie', they are a hyrbrid from merrydale poultry and (i think?) the same as an amber star.. she is very friendly and interested in people - much more so than our other hens. she has intergrated well with our established girls, although we did take things slowly following the introduction advice on here! alison
I have just added two to my Omlet chickens ( 2 GR and 2 ) I have bought a Silver Link/Amber star and a Speckledy. The amber star is a real softie, brilliant with chcildren, so I am told. She is a sweetie! Alison
AJuff
I totally agree . . . Ambers and Sussexs are very sweet natured and friendly, I hear the Ambers are very good layers too but i can't vouch for that yet!
Mrs Kettle
We have a Sussex, who is Top Chicken. Very good layer; not particularly friendly.
beach chick
we have a white leghorn, Sugar. very pretty, was initially rather flighty, but now she is laying a perfect little white egg everyday she's probably the easisest of them all to catch, and is very calm when picked up. Steph101
Speaking from experience here, I wouldn't introduce just one. I did that earlier this year, introduced a lovely hyline to our existing two gingers and pepperpot. It was a disaster, even though I took all the recommended precautions on introductions. The bullying was vicious; horrific to watch. I know people who have done this successfully without any problems, but personally I wouldn't risk it again. In fact, the second time I added to our flock, I introduced three to two, and that was far better, out numbering the existing gingers. Good luck with your decision.
