Tessa the Duchess
I always think of "Desiderata" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desiderata and the line "Strive to be happy..." It's a wonderful poem and I take great inspiration from it. One of my favourite poems too I have a print out of it on my bedroom wall. My favourite line is "no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should". Sadly I often wander down the "dark imaginings" route Tessa
Guest
Tessa, I insist you make a happy list immediately! Which reminds me, I haven't seen a pic of the new baby yet, can you point me in the right direction?
Guest
p.s. I love this line too... "You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars..." It sounds really hippie-ish and I've always fancied being a hippie!

Everybody had a copy of the Desiderata on their wall back in the day........sigh shame things have to change Tessa

Olly
finally recovered from a migraine which lasted two days (just as I thought I was cured of them ) Stroking my beautiful tabby pusscat and marvelling, not for the first time, at how a cat's head is so perfectly shaped to fit the palm of your hand. enjoying all the beautiful flowers in my garden - which were planted by a previous owner. We should always garden for the next generation. Thanks for this thread Buffie - it's all too easy to focus on the bad things in life. Lots of good things happen too! Yorkshire Pudding
Oh how nice. Marmite the cat looking well on her diabetes-friendly diet. Chickens sunbathing with one wing stretched out. Kisses from my children. OH appearing on Sunday morning with a cup of tea for me, while sun streamed through the window. and the end of term! hils78
Listening to my daughter read is my favourite at the moment. Animals that have been through a nasty time but still have enough faith to trust humans again. The smell of freshly cut grass. Allowing time to sit quietly & not feeling guilty about it! A really good book. Watching my daughter belly laugh at slugs & snails when they pull in their tenticles when touched.

Cate in NZ
Please don't forget to add that scan photo Em....definitely something to be happy about, I'll be checking the thread tomorrow Great thread Buffie....sometimes it's just to easy to focus on the daily frustrations (most of which are, in the great scheme of things, pretty trivial really ) and forget to celebrate the good things that make us happy, and for me I'd generally prefer to focus on the happy stuff, it just makes me feel better rather than grumbling about the irritating stuff. I love the sunshine, green grass and washing billowing on the line . I love long, wide sandy beaches I love spending time with my friends and family, laughing and chatting over a glass of wine or cup of coffee I love my bed, especially when it's made up with fresh, crisp, white cotton sheets. I love having just a little bit of me time, curled up with a book. I love brisk walks in beautiful places, enjoying the scenery, the fresh air on my skin and the health and the freedom that allow me to enjoy those walks. I love the smell of fresh baking, especially when I know that the smells are from good food that I've prepared for people important to me who will enjoy and be well nourished by it. Above all it's my family and my friends that make me happy, the pleasure that I derive from their company, our health and our good fortune that make it possible for us to be able to live our lives the way that we want to. And now I'm logging off to do the ironing.... a boring task but the clothes are freshly line dried and smell fab, I've got a DVD to watch to take my mind off the job, and I have no other demands on my time today so I can spend as long as I like doing it I am so lucky and I have so very much to be grateful for and happy about
buffie
Oh that all sounds fantastic Kate. Just thinking of what we have to be happy about or 'love' is great but write the words down and they have so much more impact don't they. We can write these thoughts anywhere but it's really nice to put them on the forum to share. My additions for today are: I love... Getting up early and feeling like the first one up in the world! Hearing the girls from the bathroom, before they've been let out Sitting in my office now with Tinkerbell asleep behind me Knowing that it's dry and warm and after breakfast I'll have a lovely walk with Daisie Is happiness infectious Buffie x

Hugs from my children and OH and rubs from my cats. walking around a fresh clean and tidy house , not mine very often Watching the sea. Harvesting home grown veg and fruit Settling down on a Friday night after tea with a glass of wine and family chit chat. collecting fresh eggs Watching my chooks when they are let out to free range clucking excitedly and running here and there to see what's new. Helly Welly
Finding out today that OH is off all next week. I'd forgotten when he'd booked his holiday and he's just told me DD being so wonderful with me last night when OH was late home from work and i was feeling really sick from my medication. She was really quiet and just kept stroking my hand. DD's room is tidy
redhotchick
I've just had a lovely evening. Got in from work and pottered round with the chickens for a bit. Iced a carrot cake that I had made the day before, then took a few slices to my trapeze class. I got two new moves, which made me so happy! After the class my teachers were very complimentary about the cake. Then I learnt how to post links to photos on the forum. I love a day full of achievements! Very satisfying.
