Christian
On Monday, I had to call out a local guy to come over and get rid of a wasp's nest in our roof. I offered him a cuppa and he asked what I was cooking. "christmas puddings" I said. "Oooh I love them"! He said. "How about we do a deal? One pudding enough for 8 people and I won't charge you for the nest"?? Deal done. I love country life.
Looney
Excellent exchange! Bet you're pleased you were cooking, although perhaps some eggs would have got you a discount?!
Egluntyne
Brilliant. Talking of wasps I went to Brough Mill in the Hope Valley today to get some chickeny stuff and there was a wasp like thingy flying about. It was as big as a Lancaster Bomber. Folk ( me included) were scattering right and left as it zoomed about. It was quite scary.
Cooks
I like that exchange!, what a good barter!. Egluntine I had one of those in my sons bedroom when he had a sleep over a month or so back, the boys went crazy!

Cooks
the one in my sons room flew into the lightshade (paper globe type) and flew straight threw the paper and ripped it!! I wouldn't mind but these were hard to find as they have hoops of different colours all over them, so son still has a ripped lightshade at moment but they have some weight to them those things, they are horrible! lisa33
I had a hornet nest above my bedroom once. All night you could hear them scratching away. It was really creepy.
clootie
We live in a very old house and every summer (except this one strangely enough) we have wasps nests. A couple of years ago when we were having building works done, we had a very large nest behind the wall in the attic where the builders were working. The noise was incredibly loud so we reckoned it must have been a pretty big next, anyway, to cut a long story short, we could hear them behind a light switch. Bearing in mind one of the builders was terrified of wasps, I decided to unscrew the light switch to have a better look. As the light switch was coming away from the wall, the wasps antennae were wriggling out at the sides and my builder shouts in horror "Look, look, it's testicles are coming through!" He was deadly serious too!!

AnnieP
We do it here too. My neighbour (a solicitor) wrote my will for a year's supply of eggs! It would have cost me £250 had she charged me!

Mrs Frugal
I used to do a reverse swap with eggs when my girls weren't laying over the winter. The egg man on the market used to swap half a dozen of his eggs for half a dozen of my home-made biscuits .

Sheilaz
Love the idea of bartering, that was a great result Christian. Some towns have a bartering system called "Lets". St.Albans is on the river Ver (hence Verulamium) and the local scheme is called Verlets. I haven't researched further, but I understand that there are others nationwide. I didn't join ours when I read about it some years ago, but I think I'll see if it still exists.
