Car Boot!

Recommended Posts

:D While visiting with a group of friends yesterday I mentioned the brilliance of the car boot system of having a sale. They all agreed it was a great idea. So this coming weeked we (15 of us) will gather at my house (I have the biggest lot) which is centrally located and closer to a main road, and have our version of a car boot. Each participant is responsible to bring at least one friend (the more the merrier) :D

It would be a good idea to make up some posters/flyers with the date, time and place of your "carboot" and then hand them out around town and stick them wherever you can.

The more people who know about it, the more will come. :D:D

I hope you have a great success and that the weather is kind to you.

Regards

I love car booting - both selling and buying.

Recently, I had been hankering for an old proper dial telephone but was put off by the £50+ price tags on the ones I'd seen around.

OH and I went to Sutton Park for a bike ride on Saturday and found an unexpected car boot was in progress. First stall I went to, I found just the phone I was looking for and got it for £4!!! It works perfectly and I'm now feeling very smug.

I used to love car boots - until I actually did one of my own. NEVER AGAIN. We arrived early and set up. All our stuff was in good, clean condition and I was surprised at how few people came over to look. (Think we had a bad pitch).

The people that did come over quibbled over everything including the price - personally, I don't think that 50p/£1.00 was too dear for the items, but they said they'd give us 10p some even 5p, what an insult. I walked round the site and found other people selling kiddies items e.g. little ladybird pram with a bell on it and was surprised that their's sold - it was absolutely filthy and broken whereas ours, which was perfect and clean condition, didn't , and there was only 50p difference in the price! Just can't fathom some people out. People were climbing all over the grubby stuff, which personally I wouldn't have even offered for sale, I'd have cut up for rags.

We made about £30 and took the majority of it home. Never again will I do a car boot, and I have never been to once since.

The next day a scout came knocking at our door asking for jumble. "How strong are you" I asked. "I'm really strong" came the reply. "Good" I said, and I opened up our garage door and said "Take the lot". His jaw dropped and he told me he'd go and get his dad. So at least all our stuff went to a good cause.

Hope you have a good turnout Angels4! They can be really fun to do 8)

Having said that, I went to one on Monday - it's a regular feature every Sunday on the outskirts of our village, but i haven't been for years. This one was an extra because of the bank holiday, so I went for a browse. I was appalled at the state of some of the stalls - piles of broken toys and tatty clothes for silly money! One chap had a pile of his childrens outgrown shoes - still covered in mud!!! :eh:

Perhaps make a list of what you want to sell each item for? Then, hopefully when you are run off your feet, it will only take you a second to look a and say $100

Good Luck. I've got loads of bits and pieces for a car boot sale but I just can't get motivated at the mo to get up at the crack of dawn to set it up

Thanks Claret! :D the group arrives at 6am tomorrow for set up. Before we get started we are going to go through each others things and see if we can work out some trades. That way even if I am left with more than I started with, I wouldn't have had to spend any money. :D Thanks for all the well wishes everyone, I'll let you all know how it goes. BTW thanks for letting me steal your idea! :D
